does a ford 205 fit a 727 without an adaptor?

they share the same round "new process" bolt pattern, but(knew there was a "but" didnt ya ;) ) the 727 has a 23 spline tailshaft that wont fit the fords 31 spline input gear.

you should theoretically be able to put a dodge 205 23 spline input gear ito the ford case and bolt it up. this is speculation, however, ive never actually done it. while the round pattern is the same, there also may be clocking issues installing the ford case on the amc tranny, but nothing you prolly could fix by redrilling some holes in the adapter

yep. the dodge 205 shoule slide right on. youll have to rework the exhaust,as the transfer case will want to occupy the same appriximate location as the convertor.

its worth swapping diffs,IMO. only reason to stay driver side diff is to use a ford rev cut front 60 :D a pass side diff gives you alot more options for a trasnfer case, ive never regretted swapping out my 85s front diff for a pass side axle
