I just bought my 2nd FSJ today. After convincing the better half that we really need another vehicle, we brought home an 86 grand wagoneer tonight. Got it for less than a grand(pun intended) and had no serious issues on the ride home. Less than 75,000 original miles. Hasn't really been hacked into. Some electrical issues, as was expected. Some of the wood grain is shot. Rode fine, plenty of power.
360, d44 front and rear which i guess they changed over to d44 mid year. I suspect TF727 and NP229 but havent gotten under to check the trans/tc.
Don't really know what I am gonna do with it, but I got it. I am thinking weekend getaway/tailgating vehicle.

Nice looking rig!
I always liked that wood grain paneling on a white Wagoneer!
Nice Waggy..
It borderlines a sickness.. :o
Just like ground hogs. You let one :fsj: move in and they bring the whole clan..:fsj: :fsj: :fsj: :fsj: :fsj:
Might as well start clearing out some room for the enevitable parts rigs that will magically appear. :banghead:
Buckle and Enjoy the ride..:drivin:

75K??? For under a grand????
I'll save you a crawl underneath...you have a 727 trans, and probably a 228 tcase. Those were specific to the 86's, and had an open diff instead of a viscous coupler. Theoretically, this config will leave you stranded if one wheel loses traction. IN THEORY, with open front and rear, and an open tcase, all power would be transferred to the one wheel that can spin freely. I have never seen nor heard of this happening. Everyone I know who have run the 228 in an 86 have never had a problem or complaint. They said it's as reliable as a 229.
Great rig!
