Brief history: My bro-n-law bought my 85 GW and we installed a set of over arched springs. He's wanting to jack this thing up even more. My questions are: How do I adjust the pinion angle, and what should it be? Is there a sucha thing as too much lift for driving safety?:fsj:

There are three ways to adjust pinion angle.
1) Shorten of length the spring shackls, OK, that's a bad example but changing shackle length does change the pinion angle.
2) you can by degreed shims that go between the spring pack and spring mount.
3) You can cut off and re-weld the spring mounts at the angle they need to be at for the lift obtained.

easiest to use shims, just loosen the u bolts and add them in...but please dont use aluminium shims, get the steel ones!;)

or remove and rotate the spring perch on the axle...now depending on which axle(front or rear) will determine how much...requires a torch and welder..

 Not to hijack, but when I did my SOA, we welded the front perches at the same angle as stock. I was thinking of throwin in a pair of 4 degree shims and trying a Tom Woods super flex joint to see if that helps with my binding CV at full droop. We did lengthen the front shaft an inch and a half and notched the crossmember. I had the idea to do shims, joint and grind out a little of CV joint. That or spend a ton on new shaft. Think that would possibly work?

Are you talking about your front or rear pinion?

If you are talking about the front, I wouldnt rotate the front pinion with perches or shims more than 1.5-2 degrees. Anything over that, really starts to mess with your steering.

And yeah, grinding your CV's can help quite a bit and save some ya some money.

If you want to do it right, just do like I did, and have either your outter C's or tubes pulled. My pinion is pointing up 12 degrees and my caster and camber are unchanged....

For the rear, just remove the perches, rotate the pinion so that it points just below the transfer case output, and weld them back on..
