I'm looking at a Cherokee for the drivetrain and am trying to get a sense of value. The 401 & TH400 are both rebuilt with 500 miles on them. They are running now and haven't been sitting or rotting. Here is what I have been told about the motor:

"The cylinders were not bored, just honed. Apparently the cylinder walls were in great shape and were within specs. New pistons, rings, bearings, mild comp cam, lifters, push rods, valves, seats, springs and crank machined and polished. It was a complete overhaul/rebuild. Disassembled, cleaned, parts replaced and assembled."

The seller's uncle had the work done a couple years ago so the info is coming from him. The rig also has a D300 hooked up via Novak adapter and the custom driveshafts for it. The rest of the Jeep is marginal with a few good parts (razor, new exhaust, etc.).

I don't have the space or time to do a serious part out so I would pull the drivetrain, a few misc parts and scrap the rest unless someone local wanted the shell. I have never bought a rig to part it so this is new to me.

Thanks for any thoughts/advice!

If they have receipts I would think in the neighborhood of $1500 for the set would probably get the deal done.

I would agree. With the Dana300 and custom shafts etc that's a real nice setup.
