I have a buddy that just lifted his 72 J-4000. Know we need to adress the steering. Does any body know if a 4" drop pitman arm for a 70's Cheroke or Wagoneer will fit? To the my eye it looks real close. The Chilton manual list the 70-83 models as the same, but I thought I would check the Knowledge of FSJ'ers here. smile.gif
It "should"? but the 72 J truck runs a closed knuckle SOA D44 where all Cherokees and 74+ Wags run SUA open knuckle D44's. Don't know how much difference the steering parts are between SOA/SUA and closed/open knuckle D44's? I'll gracefuly bow out now to the closed/open knuckle mega-lift folks on the forum ;)

I wondered that very same thing (SOA/SUA). We have already done some customizing with the suspension. He put the front 3.5" - 4" tuff country spring packs, for a 82 Cherokee, on. We moved the shakles mounts forward to keep the shackles from reversing. Then he had some heavy duty shackles made, this added approx. 2" of lift. We figure he has 6" of total lift . He has 35" tires that look like there 31" tires. Where hoping that a 4" drop pitman will cure the steering questions. We also thought about a slight S bend in the connecting rod. These are just our thoughts to this point.
