Which Starter

As I am getting ready to put my 401 in my '89 Waggy I need to know which starter has to go with this conversion? Will the stock '89 starter work or do I have to use the older style from a '70's model? I know I have read this in a post some time ago but in looking doing a search I cannot find the answer.

You got a 401/727 flexplate for it right? The Mitsubishi starter from the 89 will not reach the ring gear. You will need to wire up a old style solenoid to work with the Autolite starter too. Mine is not wired to the ignition switch but instead a push button.

Yep I have the right flexplate I just couldn't remember which starter I would need to use. I figured it would be the "non-new" starter.....:(
