I've been collecting parts for my build and I really need to start putting something together. I now have for the chevy engine: nice roller cam, block, heads(if I don't buy aftermarket), intake, holley 670 pro-jection (which probably isn't gonna suit me so it may go up for sell). As for the rest of the jeep I've got SOA/shackle flip kit (in the bedroom), new/used 15x10 bullet hole lookin wheels, 35x12.50x15 buckshots, and...

I love the look of a full width axle, it brings a smile to my face every time. Ever since I've owned my wagoneer I've wanted full width axles. I picked up this cherry (more like rotten crusty apple)76 k5 blazer, it was on it's way to scrap and I decided to keep it alive for a couple more weeks to get what I want off it. The axles are: front d44, rear 12-bolt. I'm an engine guy not a drive line guy, if this would be a mistake to swap in please let me know. I'm the guy that runs exactly what he has, because I can't afford the good stuff. I wasn't sure how this compared to the d44 front and rear that's in the truck, especially the offset rear since I'm going back with a np208 should I have a more centered rear axle (just a thought). If for nothing else the look is worth it to me unless the stuff from the blazer is really super weak. My jeep will see a lot of mud, not so many rocks and also it'll will be on the road some too. Oh yeah and the engine as of right now will be at least a 383, but I've got a few tricks up my sleeve that I will discuss at a later date depending on what I decide. Any and all pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and if you're interested in anything off the blazer it's posted in the for sale section.

Yeah, those axles will work just fine. The are pretty much the same as far as strentgh is concerned..

Their is no reason to worry about rear axle offset in regards to the trasfercase that you are running. The U joint does not know what angle its running. The thing to watch out for is driveline to fuel tank clearance. However, with a SOA, its probably a non issue...

We have wheeled in Moab with forum members from SLC the last couple years and Dustin has a 71 (I think) Waggy with those Chevy axles under it. It is very capable and has a nice stance...

Front will basically bolt in, although you will need to tap the pass side for a high steer arm. The rear is a c-clip axle, so keep an eye on it. Also has limited options for lockers. But will work for you otherwise.

It's been a long while, but I've finally found a little time to work on my jeep!!! So here are some progress pics:
This is the way I brought it home.

Then I decided to sell the engine.

Then I machined my passenger side knuckle.

Then i bought a blazer and stripped the axles and other parts. Here with the front axle in.

And finally I got the rear under and mocked up, per shackle flip instructions, then I had to quit for the weekend. Those tires are only 28's, I can't wait to get it rollin again.

And this is my lovely wife posing for the size pic. She's a tall 5 foot. She's coming around to the Jeep lifestyle. (it kinda broke down 2 times one day and we had to walk home in the rain both times lol :banghead:)

By the way, the engine has settled down to a cool 357 SBC, but as I said, "I build engines for a living." I've got a TPI fuel injection, roller cam, roller rockers, aluminum heads, and my machine work is free and I get to just go nuts with decking the block and offset grinding a crank and other little details. WooHoo!!! I'll still have enough power for my addiction!!!

Looks like it should come out pretty nice... I think the 12 bolt might even be a bit stronger than the original d44? My understanding was the d44s and 10 bolts were about equivelent. A 14 bolt, while being a really great axle, is actually probably just unneeded weight and reduction in clearance considering its a mud truck ands not going to be going bigger than 35s.
