Well,
The first time that I posted here was to show my wife's "new" tow rig. her newly acquired 86 GW......That was about a month ago.
Well, now I would like to share with all of you, MY "new" Jeep.
1979 Chief
Sweet rebuilt 360 (previous owner said it had about 1,000 maybe 1,500 miles on it...I think maybe 500. Unless he counted the miles that it rode in a truck bed or something???)
Turbo 400
1339 T/C
2" body lift
Some nip & tuck work (what the former owner referred to as "choped & bobbed")
Obvioulsy there is much work to do but oh how nice it will be when the cage is done, the dash insert with new gauges, a propane fuel system, bumpers, winch, lift, lockers, and nice meaty aggressive tires!
Mine and my son's XJ was named Shrek because of the PPG lime twist green that we painted it......we're already discussing paint and names for this one.

Very nice looking rig.
I know, if I tried to chop and bob...would have looked like Doggy Doo.
But, the person that chopped and bobbed your rig, was an artist.
Very good work!
I like!

I LOVE it!!! That might be the most exciting looking FSJ Ive come across in some time!!!!
Can you tell me though, is it carpeted or just sort of painted a beige color on the interior?

Lookin' forward to seeing you and your new rig on the trails Jim...;)
Can't put my finger on it, but it seems to be missing something -- I GOT IT..no seat belts!! Careful.
I think you should really start ALL over with that thing, i.e. send me the engine -- I will pay for shipping :D

Yes, this will in fact be a fun build.
I am going to take the front fenders off because I am planning on running this thing hard on the trails and those fenders are cherry. I don't want to destroy good sheetmetal.
Anyone want to make me an offer on them???
As for the custom seat.....If anyone wants one, I may be able to hook you up ;)
The interior was / is completly gutted and painted with the tan durabak coating.
As for my fellow AZ desert rats....yep, we'll meet up on the trails and you know that I am going to be posting on the VJC board.
I have started to get prices from a couple of shops for lockers and so-on and have a propane set up in the works as well.
This thing is going to be soooo much fun!
And yes, I do have some more pictures but not on me at this time. I'll get them up ASAP. And yes, I do wonder how many people have driven by already and thought,"nice Scout"
Well, back to work.

I have a set of W/T fenders off a '78 Cherk if you want to come up and get them. They are a little rough, but perfect for a thrasher. They have a couple of small dents on the back edge by the doors that could be fixed and made to look new. Just so you know.....

Jaber; I may take you up on the offer for the fenders. I really would like to find a good home for these since they are so clean. I asked the wife about me grafting them onto her ALL Original 86 Waggy but she don't think so since they wouldn't be original. I even told her that I would graft the rear ones on also so that they would match but....she likes the fact that hers is all original #'s matching. Just needs to be rejuvinated.
Fivepack; Thanks, now I know what's wrong with me!
Skeletor; Here are a couple of more pictures for you. The one I snapped with my phone when I first go it home so it isn't the best. If you're looking for something specific, let me know.
Nice,
Looks like Eric's previous rig.
and you know that I am going to be posting on the VJC board.
Pretty sure most of us AZFSJ folks will never see it then.
Some will, not a bad thing, most of us that do FSJ stuff are here.

As a matter of fact....I did buy it from a gentleman named Eric....real nice guy and a LOT bigger then me!
He has to be popular in his neighborhood because as we were loading it up; EVERYONE slowed down or stopped to ask what he was going to do with all the extra garage space.
As far as the VJC and this board.....I'm a member of the VJC and there are a lot of good folks there that would do anything to help out a fellow jeeper (size of jeep irrelevant). So many in fact that we are now forming our own SAR (Search And Rescue).
However, I am very happy to be a member of this board......if only I could get SOMEONE to reply back to my message about getting some stickers that I sent a very short tme after first signing up????
I like this board and myself and another guy (that hopefully will join up) have found a very cohesive group. We are both new to the FSJ world for the most part but not new to 4-wheeling and the whole "Jeep thing". (My family and I know when to wave....it's NOT just for Wranglers you know?)
My intentions are to start a thread and document the build of mine and my son's new Jeep here on this board. I hope that we can share our accomplishments and failures as we go along so that others may learn from our mistakes and HOPFULLY, we can learn from others here BEFORE we make a mistake.

ArizonaXJ, What did the prev. owner do to support the windshield? Are the pillars reinforced somehow?
How does the durabak look? I keep staring at their website with intent of doing my YJ and at least one of the FSJ's.
I really like the look of it, like the early 70's Blaziers with the removable top.
That thing looks really clean. Seems a shame to beat it up before making it all purty..
Good luck and please do keep us posted on progress!
