Hey guys, there's a guy interested in the T18 that I'm selling and he wants to know if it will bolt to the bellhousing that his T4 in his '84 Cj7 is connected to. He already knows that the input shaft will need to be changed to a shorter version. So do the T4 and T18 have the same bell pattern?
Thanks,
Will

i think that 3 of the 4 holes should line up. he will prolly have to drill/tap the one by the clutch fork. got any pics of the front of it?

Thanks Scotty. You're the definitely the Grindbox Guru. Here's a link to the picture since it's so huge, I didn't want to post it.

I have been doing a bunch of research myself on this recently as I am trying to put a T18 in my Commando and I got this from Novak's site, www.novak-adapt.com (http://www.novak-adapt.com)
"Interestingly, the bellhousing bolt pattern for the Ford T18 & T19 are the same as the Tremec 150 and the Tremec 176 transmissions, so no bellhousing modifications are needed. The Jeep T18 has one bolt hole different, the bolt near the clutch fork is higher on the Jeep version. A 1976 to 1979 Jeep clutch disk is required. Note that the SR4, T4, and T5 use a different bolt pattern from the Tremec series transmissions."
It seems the bellhousing to find is the T150 or T176 in order to use the short shaft. I know Novak and others like Parts Mike have them but there are also a few on ebay right now that are cheaper.

Thanks Dharmabum. That's what I was looking for. Did you ever find the T18 you were looking for? I have one on ebay ending Sunday. I'll give you a 10% discount for being an IFSJA member if you win. Sorry, I know that was a shameless plug, but I need the money so I can go ahead and get the tow rig.
Thanks again,
Will

Whats the link to the auction. Is it the one with the D20 on it? I am supposed to pick one up Tuesday but may know someone else looking.

hmmm, the pattern for the t4,t5 and sr4 is completely different than the t150? id thot a t150 bell would bolt on,but the sr4,etc. just had that one hole different. i defiantely could be wrong, tho,as ive never actually done it.
send some email to novak,im sure they can tell you whats needed to use the sr4 bell...
by looking at your pic and trying to remember some of the swaps I did...the bellhousing on some of the t-4s and t-5s and sr4s had areas for the holes to be drilled and tapped. The t-150 has this also. Worst case is you will have to change the bellhousing too.
