was there ever a 1 piece axle offered for the model 20 in a 1980 p/u?

All model 20's in Full size Jeeps have one piece axle shafts. Only CJ's have the two piece.

also, the FSJ AMC20 uses retainer plates to hold the axles in, where-as the CJ version uses c-clips.

Quick question Are the internals the same? Between CJ's and SJ's AMC 20's.

The center sections are the same. Ring, pinion, carrier, spiders ...all the same.

It would have to have been swapped in from a CJ (impossible) then it would have 5 lugs. Or it's an early dana 44 axle w/two piece shafts (5 lug also).

Also, some people get technical about the "two piece" because some/all? are an axle and a hub welded together to make one piece.

its a 6 lug hub that bolts to the shaft if you look on the shaft you can see some of the splines for the hub.

the FSJ AMC20 is technically a one-piece axle shaft: it is welded from the factory. But it is not a cast one-piece.
