Yes, I'm still trying to get my truck smog compliant and I have a few questions. I have the '74 TSM and it doesn't show where the solenoid control switch is on my T-15. It is used for the TCS (trans controlled spark system) and send a signal to a solenoid when the trans is put in 3rd gear. I found the wire for what I am almost postitive is the reverse light connection but haven't found the solenoid I need for the TCS and I don't know where to look (specifically).

I determined my CTO switch doesn't work but I am going to grab one off of the concord that I am going to grab the exhaust manifold off of along with the air injection rail, diverter valve, air pump and bracket. I am going to use the brackets from the concord and locate my air pump and pwr steering pump possibly me alt in the same location as it is on the concord so that the air pump hoses fit. I am also going to use the EGR valve off of the concord also since mine is toast. Anyone see any problems with this of have an extra solenoid vacuum valve for the TCS system laying around.

Getting closer,

Patrick

hey Patrick.....I went round and round with the TCS also.....the TSM said I needed one but my FSJ didn't have one....and there was no hookup on the TH400....so I just blew it off...and the smog guy said nothing...he didn't even look for it....basically the smog guy made sure everything that was there was hooked up if it wasn't there he didn't care...good luck!

when you go to the smog guy have him do a pretest...which is a visual and a few other things, no charge!

Veepster I actually considered pulling the spark CTO off the block and plugging it so it wouldn't look like something was supposed to be connected. I was also going to paint the plug a dark flat color so it wouldn't look like a new shiney brass plug was just inserted. I am hoping if I tell the guy me experience getting the air injection system components and I get the egr and cto switch working that he won't even look for the TCS stuff. From what I read it doesn't sound like the TCS will affect the emissions anyways once the engine is warm, where the other systems will have an effect. I hope to get it into a shop this weekend and have them tell me you need to get x,y and z to pass the visual (have them look at it before I add anything).

Thanks and keep your fingers crossed,

Patrick

From what I understand the State of Calif. is going to start a rolling 30 year exemption soon so your J truck will be smog exempt in 2004 http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
Now NOT that I ever did this http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif BUT if somebody was to hang out at the downtown DMV with thier paper work you can find people there offering to smog your car (or paperwork) of course I would never do this, oh no way. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
