'74 J10, Open Knuckle, DRUM BRAKES?

As many of you know I have a ongoing saga in trying to get my J10 registered so I have not been touching it until or dumping any more time and money into it until it is resolved. Veepster did me a solid this weekend and hooked my up with a set of steel 6 lugs (thanks again Veepster) that I cleaned, primed and painted right away. When I went to put them on the front of the beast I find open knuckle axle with drum brakes. When I bought it I looked at the axle saw what I expected an open knuckle and figured I would naturally have disks up front! Is mine just a orphan or does it have siblings?

The discs only came standard on Wagoneers from '74 onward; they were optional on Cherokees and J-10's until '76.
