I'm looking at buying a '68 Wag with the 350 Buick, factory dual tanks, and auto tranny. How can I tell what tranny it has? I have books that claim all Wags came with 400TH (pre-Chrylser)and some that call out a Borger-Warner auto for '68. If it is the BW, then how hard is it to get parts? -Thanks-

off-hand, i don't recall what auto they used on a 327?

behind the Buick 350 they only used the TH400.

The BW AS8-F or whatever they called it was only used behind the OHC 230ci I-6, coupled with a single-speed D21 transfer case.

When they switched over to the AMC 327, they used an adapter plate to mount the nailhead-pattern TH400 (non switch-pitch, though, AFAICT), and kept the TH400 through 1979, whether mated to a Buick 350 (still with adapter plate, though GM was producing an integral BOP-pattern case) or an AMC 360.

If it's a TH400 it'll have Hydramatic stamped on the trans pan, unless they've changed it out.

And like Bob said, it should have an auto.. and you'll have a Dana 20 t-case!
