Ok, so I'm short and I'm riding shotgun.
We're going to lifting the waggie MORE, and I know I'll have issues getting in.
I need some kind of strap, handle, stirrup or inner boost.
I'm not growing up anytime soon unless I'm due for my 10 yr post quarter life growth spurt. Sometime we'll be getting some kind of rockers, but in mud I know I'll slip on them so rockers will only help so much. What is a gal to do?
He says I can't mount a strap to the roof or the A or B pillar. Is this true?
OR
If if I can do something to help my vertical challenges, what have you all done for yourselves or your short loved ones to make their getting in the FSJ easier?
and no, I'm not bringing a step stool
and no, I'm not renting oompa loompas to step on
so really.... what should I do? what works?

I use the seat belt myself. I reach in grab both sides of the strap and pull. I go right in, my wife goes right in, my mom can get in, all in the same matter.

there are elec steps that open with the door and then retract when closed. activated by dome light circuit or similar.

I mounted some tie down straps to the A pillars and went from there. Not much effort involved. Try to search the directory the one pic is in for a few other shots.
Good luck,

I just went down to the barn and took a stirrup off the old saddle and fasten a strap to it and the floorboard, sure does look good.

Get an old leather belt. Make a foot loop with that, use it as a stirrup to get in. Yes, kinda like gettin on a horse.
Believe me, at being only 5'3" tall or short depending on one's point of view, having a lifted CJ with 2.5" lift springs set up as SOA and running 36" tires with 22 inches between the frame rail and the ground, I'm really liking my "low riding" FSJ.

I think it's Steelhorse that sells the aluminum steps that bolt to the rockers. I have them on my F150 and they are great (until you bottom out crossing RR tracks and blow it clean off AMHIK). Search for them on ebay. I've found them in the junkyard.

fasten a chain under the sliders. hangs low as a step but won't hurt it dragging on rocks.

I had one truck that I installed a bar OVER the doorframe. That FSJ did not have a headliner, however. I could reach up and pull myself up into the truck.
The A or B pillar is PLENTY strong enough for a strap of some kind. They're on all the new trucks, so it must work, right? ;)

If I put a strap into the A or B, do I have to go all the way through the exterior metal? I assume there is no way to get extra metal plate in there.
I'm not a waif, but even still, that's a lot of weight on one point. Any extra thoughts on making sure I don't pop the strap out of the metal?
My wife is not short at 5'6", but with my 4" lift and 33s it takes some effort for her to climb in. She usually grabs the door, seat, anything she can. Biggest issue is not getting in...it's getting out. She sometimes wears short skirts and has to be EXTRA careful not to show her...umm..."Britney":o Kinda funny, though, to see her struggling to get out while holding her skirt down.
I want to get some kind of running board...I think retracting boards would be really cool...can't see them until you need them. Do they bolt to the frame? Any web links?

Without making comments or assumptions of your weight or lack thereof, the metal on the pillars is folded and/or bent so that it is actually VERY strong. You could use some sort of anchor bolt possibly.
Perhaps you could tie into the seat belt bolt on the B pillar, too. Obviously, that point is very strong.

You don't have to be short to need a stirrup to get in your Jeep! You got one on the other side of the saddle for the passenger side?:)
I seen a set of fold away rockers on a new Dodge truck back in 2006. THey were on a dealer modified truck. When you grab the door handle the rockers would drop down about 12 inches. They folded back up when the door closed. Very cool and very functional, all air operated IIRC.

i have seen the chain idea used, they welded 3 or 4 links together so that they had something to step on then bolted it to the truck and let it hang. Another idea I read was to take a piece of pipe 4 or 5 inches long slide it over a peice of rope long enough to be wedged under the seat brackets then when you needed it you just pulled it out got in the truck then lifted it back in. Of course you could do like my mom when she was driving my stock 78 F250 4X4 sit down on the floor board slide in then pull her self up on to the seat!

The KODIAK SideWINDER retractable step makes getting in and out of your truck or SUV a lot easier without bulking-up the vehicle's good looks.
The SideWINDER step is so low-profile that when the door is closed, you might not even notice it. But open your door and the step automatically lowers the step-in heighth eight inches. Close the door and the step automatically retracts out of the way.

That's pretty cool. I think Lincoln Navigators had a full length version. Something like this...only I thought the Navigator version came out more. http://www.kodiaksidewinder.com/PB_ShowMe.html

The Gator version does come out more. They are great. If you are not used to em you have to be careful, or ya end up with skinned up shins when they come out.

Are there no gentlemen on here, that would open a door for a pretty "little" lady. Naaaa me either. I'm in the process of SOA and 35's, my wife is a rounded up 5', but she say's she's not short, just a fun size. I'm gonna tell her to jump or stay home. Good luck with the strap idea, I like it and if I'm feeling sympathetic I may try it. (if any of you are wondering NO my wife doesn't read my posts so I'll live another day)

ITS NOT THAT TALL!!!!
Its easier to get into than the lifted TJ.
Use the rocker guards as your step, they will stick out far enough.
I will NOT be putting any kind of step or automatic step that opens with the doors on MY jeep; the rocks will remove them without much effort.

Should have seen my neighbor and I trying to get my 6 months pregnant wife into his Suburban. Now it's mentioning, this was an 89 burb, over 20 inches of lift, and sitting well above a set of 44 inch swampers (pic of it on my myspace). He got in and pulled up, while I got under and pushed. Oh, that was a fun night.
