My brother had to swap his tranny out because he was leaving town and we didnt have time to rebuild . He checked everything but the bolt setup on the AX5 we (he) put in and when he put the unit back in the 231 was clocked to 13 deg. insted of the 23 deg that it was previously clocked at (I think the new AX5 had a 207 on it )As far as I can tell the oil pickup still is compleatly submerged and the question is do any of you think there will be any adverse conditions due to the clocking being 13 now insted of the 23 it was -- If you all see no probs we are just going to pound out the floor to clear the front drive shaft , fab a new shifter bracket and the real bonus = make a new crossmember that sits between the frame rails insted of under and give him about 2 1/2 in. more ground clearence witch will allow us to put a flat pan skid all the way!
On another note my foot is feeling a little better and I will start to get the freebees out to you all soon -- when I have it all sorted I will post a new freebees topic to let you all know.
Thanks,
Matt :D ;) :D

What vehicle is this in...
First, the ax5 is is a light duty transmission found behind 4cyl yj-tj-xj's. 6cyl yj-tj-xj's got the ax15 or nv3500 series...
Second, the clocking issue you have has more to do with the donor vehicle the parts came from. yj-tj's are clocked 13* and xj's are clocked 23* for body clearance under the vehicle. My understanding of the clocking is that they are clocked at the transfercase, not the trans adapter, meaning the bolt pattern differs on the front case half of the t/c between the xj and yj-tj cases, not the transmission...
There should not be any lubrication problems if the pickup is thoroughly submerged.

Kris-
Its an 86 XJ chief, yea the small one ,and I thought the diff was on the t-case also but apparently we were both wrong! And to be fair I did mislead somewhat because there are no "frame rails" only the simbalance of them as a uni-body . Also it has the 4 banger-It will be recieving a buick 231 and a th400 not sure what t-case,(that will be decided later when he gets back from Penn).I know its not a FSJ but you cant knock a free jeep of any size.
Col. Angus - ?Freedom? not sure what do you mean -if you are referring to the french that would be the BA10/5 Pugoet however its spelled.
Thanks
Matt
