I am looking at getting a performance manifold for my 72 j4000. What does it mean if it says non egr. Am i required to have egr? Any help would be appreciated
I am looking at the edelbrock performer, Does anyone have any complaints about this manifold?

I have a non-egr performer manifold on the 360 in my 73 J4000. I don't believe you would be required to have one in WI especially on a 72. I really enjoy the performance of my 360 with the manifold and a 4bbl carb.

Is there anything that i would need to change if i put a non egr manifold on. At least as far as the vacuum lines are and such

The non-egr manifold will eliminate the CTO that is towards the front of the manifold. The line from the egr went into this and the outlet to the vacuum valve at the right rear of the manifold. I'll try to get a scan of the vac setup and show what is removed.

All of the performance parts like manifold and headers are interchangeable between all the 304-401 engines correct? i ahve a 304 in there right now but if i want to go to a bigger engine i could switch parts over?
I installed a performer (without EGR) on my 401 and I just installed the CTO, but didn't install any hose on it. It would prolly look better if it had a plug in it, but with all the other ugly crap sitting on top of my intake, you cant hardly see it anyway, so who cares?
no complaints about the edelbrock

If you go back to the Gen 2 blocks (290/343/390) then some things change and you won't be able to swap everything over.

Ya, the long term plan is for a 401, but that will have to wait till i get out of college.
How easy are the edelbrock carbs to tune? My experience is limited to the 1 barrel on the 134F in my m38a1.

From the little I've played with edelbrocks they seem pretty easy to tune. If you ask me though I would skip the edelbrock and go straight for the quadra-jet.
They are super-tunable and will run at almost any angle fuel injection will. With the tiny primaries you can get pretty darn good fuel economy and when the secondaries open up you'll have whole bunches of power. ;)

I was impressed with my Edelbrock carb. Bolted it to originat manifold and could realy feel a diff, and after 3 yrs on the truck I've still never had to adjust it. Just my $.02

I agree with jaber. Been a year since the rebuild of my 360 was completed and I haven't had to do anything to the timing or carb adjustments in almost 5K miles. I'm running an Edelbrock 1407 (750 CFM- which some say is too much carb for our 360s) and have no hesistation and great power.

where did you guys buy your carbs. Did you just go through someplace like summit or 4wd hardware. I was lookin at ebay and they seem to have good deals once in a while.

I actually got mine on a forum (might have been here?) that a guy had on a Mustang for a couple of thousand miles and found out it was too much carb for a 302. There are deals on carbs to be had but be careful, someone may try to dump a POS on you.

Typically if you're careful you should be ok. As long as nothing hard is broken you can always rebuild a carb (would plan on it anyway buying used).
