Where does the float bowl on a Carter BBD vent to when there's no evaporative canister? The service manual says/shows the vent to the canister and then to the air cleaner snout. When not equipped with a canister, then vent direct to the air cleaner snout?

welcome to the forem tgreese!
first off, what year do you have there, maybe it was supposed to have a canister. If you didnt really want one, you could just leave it open...that would probably smell pretty bad though. probably the best option would be to tie it into the crankcase vent that goes into the air cleaner...or you could stopper it up..or better yet, get a weber and be done with it! :D

Hello Mr. Goat - thanks for the greets.
The year/model is in my sig, but it may not have shown up since I just changed the sig.
The '77 model 45 for 49 states had no canister according to my service manual. I haven't found anything in manual about the vent except that it goes to the canister.
This truck is new to me - I'm trying to get the problems sorted out before I add anything new. The Weber would be good, although I thought I'd use a 2100 Motorcraft (just out of cheapnis). I'm pretty handy with lightweight fabrication, so the linkage and air cleaner adapting would be easy. Didn't think it would be such a good idea to plug the vent - shouldn't the float bowl remain at atmospheric pressure? To the crankcase vent seems sensible - the shop manual shows a nipple at the snout of the air cleaner for such a purpose (when equipped with a canister).
