finally got the jeep in the woods worked great! a few small issues i need to address. the main one axle wrap! im runnin stock springs with an AAL shackle flipped and the axle wrap straight destroyed the right side . so i need new spprings. i was thinking maybe bj's offroad 2" lift springs or maybe rought country 3 " i dont need much justa tough set. would an overload spring in the set help? who makes a universal antiwrap bar or something similar with heims?

Jeep looks great. I actually like the brown more than the green. Do you have the doubler in yet?

There are some universal-ish anti-wrap bars out there. Andrew made one for his waggy that worked really well according to him. He said the difference in traction was amazing. I agree that 2" lift springs would help against wrap though. 30 year old stock springs just dont hold up.

i was thinking the same a new set of lift springs should help tremendously compared to springs from 77.

Those are some great pics, I need to print a few of those and stick em over my toolbox for motivation to get mine wheelin again. Some of the best pics I have seen of a Cherokee yet.

An overload spring will just hurt the flexability of the springs. I'd go with new lift springs. I heard from Kali that Rough Country springs are stiff. Never road in his jeep though.

There are a few places online that sell anitwrap setups that are universal. I can't think of any off the top of my head though.

Sweet pics

Nice looking Jeep! I have been fighting the spring issue too, finally went to Chevy 63s in the rear. They seem to be holding up much better than the stockers.

Great looking Jeep!

I bet that's down in Catalantee.

Next time the Jeep club up here in Blacksburg heads down that way, I will let you know if you want to come along with them.

Great looking Jeep.

Looking good man! Are those 42" TSLs?

who makes a universal antiwrap bar or something similar with heims? Give Drake a call - his shop is in JC, good prices & MAD skills: www.tdoffroad.com (http://www.tdoffroad.com)
He did a couple anti-wrap bars for friends of mine, very nice work.

Nice video! The jeep looks good. Now you need to update your sig, though.

Just google "offroad trac bar" and you'll get a bunch of results. I know there's K5 stuff everywhere...I swear I've seen some trac bars from somewhere...

Here it is: http://www.offroaddesign.com/catalog/tractionbar.htm

Looks great. If only mine was that far along. I need to get some stuff done on it.
You might try the 63in chevy springs. I read a lot about them on here, and may think about a set for mine when I get to that point.

Great video! Thanks for posting up! There's something to be said for the "bump" technique...

You might try Alcan Spring in Grand Junction, CO. Excellent folks to deal with, and they'll customize a beautiful set of springs for your rig reasonably, and quickly.

Let us know what you end up doing for a traction bar.

hey everybody thanks for the compliments. its far from done for now but atleast i can put it in the woods. to answer some questions:

yes those are 42" tsl's they perfromed well . i think i liked my 39.5 iroks better. maybe less tire pressure with the 42's will work better

that trail was easy out on welder in callalantee. any time you guys come for a ride im down to roll with you.

the jeep flexes really well and sad to say this is the first jeep ive ever actually lowered the bumpstops on. of course all the others never flexed. i still have to lower the fronts another inch its gettin way into the fenders and i gotta lower the rears as well. will do that after i get the new springs.

ill probably go with bj's or maybe geta custom set will call and see if i can get military wrap and all that fancy stuff something that will last and check out the anti wrap bars and i should be ready to hit some more trails!

does the chevy springs require a relocation of the front spring mount?

Yea, the are longer than stock, and move the axle a few inches back and get you a little more wheelbase. I dont know the exact specs on this swap. But there is a bunch about it on here, a quick search sould get you a few good topics.

well heres what i come up with. i acutally dont like my design but thats my fault cuz i didnt meausre twice cut once when i went to get the tubing. i ended up not having enough any way i went so like a friend of mines from arms on his dodge i just made one shorter and welded it up hope it works the same ive yet to have it out in the woods.

what ive ended up with is a traciton bar 5' long. i read to make it long and low so i did but i think its a little too low. ill find out on the next trip, but here it is

heres the bushings and mount i cut out for the rear axle
http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k105/visualinhalant/tractionbar002.jpg
welded to the tube
http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k105/visualinhalant/tractionbar008.jpg
tubing with ends welded on. in a perfect world or from what ive seen of other designs both upper and lower tube are the same length. i guess it will all work the same?
http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k105/visualinhalant/tractionbar10.jpg
this is the mounting point for the johnny joint. its the rear tube of my cross member. i think it will work well. the shackle will face up when its mounted of course
http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k105/visualinhalant/tractionbar13.jpg
this is a better pic of my crossmember before i welded the mount on just to let you see what i have already done. pay no attention to the hacked up exhaust its temporary till the 401 is dropped in!
http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k105/visualinhalant/undercarriage6.jpg
and heres the traction bar ready to be installed
http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k105/visualinhalant/tractionbar14.jpg
this is how low it is under the jeep. hope it doesnt bend when i climb up a vertical wall

Mabey silghtly un related question.

How well does the NP205 clear the floor? Did you have to cut any? I read on here that there might be clearance problems since the tunel is made for a passenger drop t-case and driveshaft. Just wondering since I am also gonna be installing a NP205.

thanks misfit

jeepsandguns. you will have to cut if you want it tucked up high. which you do. you will lose a bolt to the original seats. ill see if i can find a pic and post it up.

looks like it turned out great. i like the traction bar. how long are you going to run it before rebuilding it? it took me about 6 months.:D now im cutting it up and completely redoing it.

Thats kinda what I figured. I knew I wouldnt be lucky enough to bolt it in.
Oh well, whats a little more metal. Mabey I sould hold off on welding in new floor pans untill I am puting in the trans/t-case. That way I do all the sheetmetal at one time.
How much did you have to cut?

yeah thats what i thought but read it was sopposed to at least go to the yoke of the tcase and mine does plus 6 inches. it better work!

You said you don't like your design, how come? I've always thought it should be that long (to the yoke). It's simple and will work great, I like it.

im just irritated that i cut the steel short so i had to go with different length arms and i think i mounted it too low on the axle. if it works then great, theres one ledge im worried that it will hit when i wheel if it does well there then ill be satisfied, hell if i does hit i wont care so long as the extra traction im gonna gain with the traction bar gets me over the ledge

yeah everything i seen had that it should atleast go to the yoke for the pivot point. thanks man!
