I changed the xfer case fluid on my 86 GWAG and it took me literally 10 minutes. Although this job is probably totally obvious to everyone here, I thought I'd post the steps & equipment list.

What you need
---------------
3 quarts of Dexron II/III automatic transmission fluid
1&3/16" socket (fits both fill & drain plugs) available from Sears for $5.99
A pump device to get the fluid from the quart bottles into the fill hole (I got mine at the local True Value hardware store - it threads right onto the quart bottle and worked like magic)

Process
-----------------------
1. Break the fill plug bolt free (just to make sure you can!). Remove it.
2. Remove the drain plug bolt and drain the yucky fluid into a drain pan
3. Replace the drain plug bolt. Torque to 30ft/lbs if you care.
4. Attach the pump device to the first quart. Put the hose from the pump into the fill hole as far as you can.
5. Start pumping.... switch when your quarts are empty until you've put 3 quarts of fluid in.
You're done. It should take you no more than 15 minutes to do this. The total cost of parts (fluid, socket, pump) for me was less than $15. Since I bought my GWAG from a dealer and didn't have any maintenance paperwork (my Wag has 102K miles on it), this was a cheap confidence builder.
