I have finally got the Waggie wheelable. 3.73, tru trac front, and spool in rear. I need to come up with a good location for some recovery hooks front and rear. Any ideas??? Thanks.

some folks put recovery shackles in their hitch. If you removed the factory tow setup, you can mount a hook with the pointed end facing up inside the frame rails. I say to point them up as they tend to catch stuff otherwise, and also the tow strap can fall off if it's pointed down.

I was thinking you might be able to get some of those formed steel recovery loops off an suv or heavy truck, and bolt them to the frame. Then just loop a recovery strap through them or put recovery shackles on them to connect the strap to. Next time I go to the junkyard I'm going to look at all the recovery loops I can find and see if any would work on the GW.

You've probably already been told this - but IMO, loose the wimpy stock bumpers, get some REAL bumpers and weld clevis mounts on them.

Yeah, I know its alot of work - but the end result is worth it. What's that....tree in the way? Hang on a sec, I'll mow it down. :D
IIRC, I bought my mounts here:

NOTE: you have to be a good welder with a powerful machine to properly install this type of mount.

Mow it down, that is if your steering box doesn't break first :p

:o True that - guess my bumper can take more than my FSJ can. :D All will be better though, chopping off the puney 1/8" thick lower mount, replacing it with 1/4" thick, installing Tad's brace, all new grade 8 bolts, AND finishing the high steer (1" spacers under the arms).

Can't argue that new bumppers are the way to go. I already had to ditch my Harley to do the gears and diffs. I hate to say it, but this is one that I am trying to do on the cheap. I had a guy chassis a race car for me. I am going to talk to him on fabbing up some bummpers. I like the bumppers that BJ' s sells, but freight is going to be insane.

Make or buy some beefy bumpers, thats the only real good way to do it. We used to tie to the front shackles or safty chain hook ups on the trailer hitches and after breaking both of those you learn to find better things to chain up to
Also, I noticed youre in Warrenville...I drive through there at least once a week, where do you go wheelin? We should meet up and throw some mud sometime

You can put a clevis in your rear receiver like Ryan said, then have your fab guy weld you a matching revceiver on the front. One point on each end will be enough until you can afford new bumpers.
