View Full Version : Shifter from CJ works for FSJ...

Just an FYI in case some of you didn't know...I had a bad shifter, the nubs were wore off, so it kept sticking and jamming in my T176...so I ordered a new shifter top kit and a shifter..the shifter is bigger for a CJ, and initially I figured I'd be bending it, but after installing it...even though it's 'tall' I'm comfortable with it just as it is..and it has plenty of clearance. (Best of all it works)...:thumbsup: (Oh this is in a 84 J10).

Nice interior all around...is that the stock steering column and wheel (having never been that close to that new of an FSJ...)?

Does the new shifter have a shorter throw than the old?

I know how a bad shifter can make for a bad day.

Are you gonna keep that 176? Upgrade it to a 177? Find a T18 or move to a NV3550?

That's good to know. Plus I just noticed how much that steering wheel looks like something that came in YJ's.

My dad had an '84? CJ7 that was an auto and thats what the wheel looked like in it.

It feels like it's got a shorter throw, hardly much effort to shift. As for the steering column it's from a XJ I believe..
Its' gonna goto a tilt soon, along with a new crash pad, but I gotta paint that first.
So far just basic repair and replace, nothing major..It's getting my 88 GW steering box...

NOt sure, may just keep it that way for now...rebuild parts and complete unit's aren't all that scarce...and I'm getting more info daily that yes you can upgrade the gears to be a 177...though, I made a major goof and let go of a T18a recently that I really could've just popped into this, but I didn't know I was getting this thing then...

Hey and uh..drill some large holes in those chrome spokes and it'll look like a Rally Wheel..:D
