Paint Code

OK guys,

Where's the paint code. I need more dark blue to cover my "oops I shouldn't have tried to scrape away that rust".

There should be a VIN-tag thingie on the left side(driver's side) of the firewall in the engine compartment.....open hood and look for it. VIN number should be on the tag for one thing, but then other funky codes. VIN "should" be the code along bottom of tag....paint code "should" be far left immediately above that...a two-digit(maybe one letter and one number) code. (I'm not sure if this was the same form for all years, but what it shows in my Chilties tonight!)

Here's what I suggest....check this site out:

Note your make/model/year and see the listing...it shows Jeep models from '76+, so if your model is in there, you should be able to find it. Make note of the colors closest to yours.....jot down the "paint codes" and then go check your VIN tag on the firewall....one of these should be an exact match! That's your color!

Bear in mind that that's "original" color....many vehicles tend to "fade" or otherwise age from that so getting even an original color might not "match" perfectly....depends on how pristine your paint is now. But, that should lead you to some answers in your quest!

Thanks for the info. The hood's been repainted once, it still shines up pretty good with a coat of wax. The roof is almost delaminating (like the GM's from the late 80's) but it looks like its from wear. Ya know, things just wear out when you hit 200K.
