Well I just got finished with a couple of anti heat modifications. Just trying to get some of the heat out while going slow so I got a couple of elctric fans off ebay for $40 and cut some hood louvers for free:D . We took it out to Plaster city for the MDR races in about 110 degree weather. Trailed around for a couple of hours trying to find our check point and it never went over 220 which is the best its ever done since I bought it. Hard to say if the fans or louvers really did anything since I fixed a huge vacuum leak and changed out my power valve to an 8.5 before we left but I figured I would post and see what you guys think. You can't really tell in the picture but the fans tucked really nicley behind the grill. Worked out sweet!

Do you have any closer pics of the hood louvers? ive really been thinking about doing that to mine...

At low speed the louvers might be OK, but at freeway speeds they might be to far back toward the high pressure area at the base of the windshield and might hurt cooling due the flow reversal, tape one end of some strings so they drape over the louvers and see which way air is flowing at different speeds.

How did you cut those...they look raised, are they? Very nice.

I took these pics on my buddys camera phone. I don't have a digital camera right now so I cannot take very good pictures of the louvers but I just bought one on ebay that is gonna arrive tomorrow so i'll try to get some better pics then.
They are raised. Let me tell you we talked about it and planned and drew on my hood with a pencil for a week straight before I started cutting. I really wasn't sure that I liked the way that louvers looked but I was sure that it would help while going slow so I searched for pictures and websites that sell louver kits. The kits are way to expensive and I sure wasn't going to pay a speed shop to do it!
We spent the most time measuring and drawing out the cuts and bends. Then we welded some 1/8th inch 1 1/2" x 5" flat stock to the end of a pair of vise grips to make a set of seam pliers also called duck bill pliers. Then we made our cuts with a 1/16th" cutoff wheel on an angle grinder. We had measured and marked where the end of the pliers should be for each bend and then we just bent them 3/8ths tall. It worked out really well but if you try it be very thourough with you measurments and thoughts before you make the cuts and make the cuts and bends from the windshield forward and one at a time otherwise it will fold up on you.

Now that's a good idea. I wish somebody would have suggested that in the threads and discussions that I searched. I'm gonna try that tomorrow. Thankx.

What size are your fans?

Two 10" fans. They supposedly flow 1250 cfm each but that seems high for 10" fans. The ebay seller is called north coast performance. Good seller and he has all kinds of fans. I payed $44 with shipping for two fans. I probably could have made 12" fans work but there would have been about 2" of overhang on the sides. It would have worked though. The only thing I don't like about these fans is they are a little loud. They sound like old air raid sirens but the good thing is I can tell when they are on.

Here they are. They are still rough. When I get a chance I plan to smooth them but they still came out pretty good I think.

those louvers look great!
In the last couple years, I found that an open element filter allows more airflow around the carburetor to help it stay cooler if you happen to be fighting boiling fuel in the carb and have a snorkle fed air cleaner.

Here is a pic of the pliers we made. Thanks for the support I really wasn't sure how good they would come out or if I like them.
I think I'm gonna call them the moorehouse louver system since now a couple of budies want me to do some on their rigs.

Darn nice job I say. In oregon those cuts would be rusty in about 2 days & intake sitting full of water.

So today I taped a piece of ribbon to the hood so it would drape over the louvers and went for a drive down the freeway. Drove about 25 miles at 65 to 70 and the ribbon never went inside the louvers. It was held down across them but was not pushed inside. This would lead me to beleive that any higher pressure that may be present at the windshield at freeway speeds is only at the windshield and not 8 inches forward of the rear hood edge where my louvers are, or is not strong enough to counter balance airflow across the radiator. This is IMHO of coarse but I thought I would post my findings.
