I bought this J10 last year and have been working on it since.
It is a 75 with a 401, 400 tranny and quadratrac.
Ran terrible when I got it, all the vacuum lines had rotted off.
Fixed all the vacuum lines, put in a HEI, new plugs, wires, etc.
Just got it back from Maaco. I think they did a great job.

You must live in Clarkston??
I was a Park Ranger on the river there for 4 years.
I wish the Maaco in my area was decent! The last quote I got on my Grand Wagoneer was $12k, and no rust or major body damage!!
I've seen what the local Maaco does with paint; it ain't pretty...

Did you do any prep work and how much did that cost to get that done. It looks awesome!

Very nice looking truck. Order some tailgate graphics from BJ's and make your "JEEP" letters come to life.

I'm about to take my Wagon to Maaco and I'm wondering what kind of prep work you had to do. It's gonna be a trail rig so it doesn't have to be pretty, how much did it cost you?
Maaco did that?
Looks great!

Thanks all.
Maaco in Lewiston Idaho charged me $1500 for this paint job.
The guy who owns the Maaco is a AMC/Jeep fan and I think he did a great job cause he loves these old Jeep pickups.
This J10 was very straight to begin with, only a couple dents on the hood and a few rust spots, but other than that it was straight.
I had them do a base coat/clear coat, it was more $$$, but the results were well worth it.

And that probably the only reason why it came out looking so good.

I spy something red with my eye... Is that a 60 something firebird/camaro convertable in your garage? Can't see the details of the back to well to be sure, but anyways that paint looks real nice on your Jeep, if only Lewiston was closer to northern Utah, but oh well probably do a rustoleum special on mine for now until I get my own equipment to do auto paint.

I have never known anyone that had a good experience with a Maaco paint job. This is a first.
i got my truck painted at Maaco two years ago. hasn't been too bad for going with the $400 "just make it all one color" option.
there are things bodywork-wise i would have done differently but the goal then was to get it on the road and not have it look like a hoopty. :D

that's a very nice looking truck........BUT.....I will stick to rattlecan as Mesquite trees and cactus and rocks are not very friendly to REAL off road trucks paint.

I don't want to rain on anybodies parade, but most paint jobs look good at first, especially in a picture.
How much service you get out of a paint job depends on the prep work and the materials used, how presentable it looks at a distance depends on the painter. Painters at a MAACO may paint 5 or more cars a day, unless they're total clutzes they get to be pretty fair painters quick, or they're on the street. The problem is when they really get good, they usually move on to a better paying job somewhere else, so most MAACOs are always breaking in new painters.
What quality work MAACO, or any quick paint shop puts out depends on the people and the management. They're usually in a big rush, up against deadlines on everything. Some can do much better jobs than they're allowed to do, so how good a job you get from them depends on the people and how busy the shop is at the time.

I've put Maaco jobs on two vehicles. We have one good one here in town and one sorry one. The good one did such a good job that I won second place in a car show with it. It is a shame that people generally write Maaco off as just an Earl Sheib clone. Maaco, around here anyway, can actually do good bodywork and everything.

Truck looks good,so dose the Firebird
I had a truck & car painted at two different Maacos,
one did a good job, the other one wasn't so hot.

Looks stunning Im doing mine the same color. I heard maaco does a great job as long as you prep it right and there is no body work to be done.

Just out of curiosity where did you get the rear bumper or was it already on there when you got it because I need new bumpers and I really like that rear bumper on there.

I'm fairly sure the previous owner had mine painted at Maaco. 3 plus years later and it's doing pretty good. From what the PO told me, he did a fair amount of prep work before he took it in. The hood was replaced since the paint job and it needs to be painted to match.
I've put on some "cowboy pinstripes" here and there, but it still cleans up good and shines. For the price it's hard to beat.

Wish I could trust Maaco to shoot me something like that. That looks good compared to what they gave my buddy on his CJ. His cost more too! Looks great BTW:thumbsup:
