Hey guys I'm new to the forum and looking for some help. I just purchased an 88 GW and under load it appears that oil starts coming out of the front of intake manifold gasket. The oil hits the back of the water pump hose and goes into the fan which sprays it up on the hood. What could be the underlying issue? I was thinking maybe a clogged breather hose. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Is this a 360? Have you checked the PVC valve? If you put on another oil fill cap does this stop the flow?

Welcome to the forum. You will find all the answers you need and some you didn't know you needed. This is a great group of FSJ lovers. You came to the right place. I'm sure you'll get more answers better than mine.

Are you getting a lot of oil into the air cleaner too? If not it might just be the fill tube tube leaking where it's pressed in?

Thanks for the quick replies and the welcome. It does have the 360. I haven't checked the PCV I figured I would look at that when I look at the breather hoses. There was oil in the air cleaner when I picked it up. I cleaned it out and it has remained clean for the short period of time that I have driven it since cleaning. I'll have to look at the fill tube, but it looked Ok just glancing at it. My other issue is the GW is in TN and I am in NC right now. So I can't go look at it easily. I'm gathering info so I can hopefully fix it next trip.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum! Sounds like the PCV valve is clogged, the hoses are bad or the passage for the PCV in the carb base are plugged. Kinda sounds like the air cleaner has no oil in it now because the crankcase pressure found a better place to vent - the manifold!

jeepster106,
May I also suggest that you purchase a Haynes Manual for the full-size jeeps. They are quite helpful for repairs and any other problems you may have with your GW. I got mine at Autozone.Any other problems/questions you have can be put to the many members of this great web-site. Oh,by the way, welcome!!
Enjoy your GW,

fitron74,

Thanks for the input and the welcome. I picked up a Haynes manual and I am going to get a Chilton's as well. My past experience is that what one manual doesn't cover well the other generally does.

Thanks again.

The Chiltons will only cover to '86,if you can find one(except on Ebay). From what Iv'e heard Haynes bought Chiltons out.I agree about checking the PCV system(including the filter in the oil fill cap).
And again welcome to the forum, there are many helpful people here.

I had the same problem and got the solution here on the forum too. My filler cap was clogged with oil I had to replace it too when I replaced the PCV valve. You may as well replace the vacuum hose that goes from the back of the carb to the PCV valve while you're at it. If it has a crack you probably won't be able to see it and the hose is cheap. A tip someone gave me that was useful to make sure the fix is complete is to do this. Take the hose from the oil filler cap to the air cleaner off and see if air is blowing out or sucking in through the tube on the side of the oil filler cap. If the PCV system is functioning properly it should be the latter.
