Hey guys new guy saying hi,
I'm in Layton Utah and this is my second Full size jeep, and my third jeep I have owned, my first jeep which I'm still driving and my DD for now is a 92' Cherokee which has been great to me (230,000 miles & still ticking) but wanting something that is full size kinda like my first vehicle I have ever owned which was a 84' Ramcharger (gave it away to my brother), and a 78 cherokee (which I had to salvage because it was a mess, now I regret it because I found out later it had a running 401) I have also owned a 83' Dodge power wagon which was T-boned a minivan (I know, oh the horror).

Anyways found my self a 83' Cherokee Laredo Widetrac, for $800
but however found out its gonna be definately a restore project as I grinded away bondo and and found some of the sheetmetal rotted away even found some plates that have been riveted on then bondoed over, the passnegr door is dinged in, the front 2 fenders are pretty hashed too, but already found a driver side fender in excellant condition in a salvage yard and a bonus I found some fiberglass flares that someone just gave me, he said they're supposed to replace the metal ones in the rear the problem is, only like 5% is cancered out will be feasable to replace the whole flares or just repair it?

Any ways on to the pictures:

And to add its starts right up and runs pretty good, but it burns oil as there is blue smoke coming out the exhaust, and the factory exhaust is trashed (no matter its getting a better upgrade anyways) but a bonus is it has a fresh remanufactured tranny under 10,000 miles, and a somewhat functional A/C, power windows power locks, and the tailgate power window does not work,
the salvage yards are getting scarce for parts on these rigs here locally, especially the body parts I was lucky to find a nearly flawless fender today.

Also another thing on my list is eventually getting rid of the smog headers and getting some good tube ones, unless some one recommends a differant approach

Welcome from Az.

Take one of the bolts out that hold the tubes on and go to your best nut & bolt shop. True Value is best in my 'hood. They are an odd size (dont recall at the moment) and I had to trim them for length. I pipe doped them into place.

Very interesting, I went out started er' up and fired up the A/C to see if it was functional, whaddya know it works! well... kinda it blows somewhat cool air, not cold but it felt a bit cooler than 90 degrees like it was outside, it felt more like around 60 degrees, now the question is does it have a York compressor like I've been hearing alot about in the forums? And I have been hearing the reputed durabilty of these units any info on this is appreciated,

Also to note years ago I used to be certified on auto A/C units but since then (8-9 years) I have not put that knowledge to use, concentrated mainly on computers and such, so much of my knowledge on A/C units is lost, however I still retained enough to know how things work on some.

I picked up an 80' in about the same condition for 800 bucks as well with the initial buying price i am already 2600 into it and i havent made it to the engine(which is running) and the tranny(which just went out) of course i did spend 850 of that investment on a 4 inch lift maybe i don't have my priorities in the right order. Anyhow welcome from Alabama:rolleyes:

Welcome! We get to Moab at least once a year. You have until next April to get ready for some mild to wild wheelin fun on the slickrock with several other FSJers from around the area.

Welcome from down here, the smog tube bolts are the same thread and size as the spark plugs. Wouldn't use them, but makes a good reference.
