View Full Version : Odd finding under my GW today!

I was out poking around under my Grand, attempting to tighten up the exahust flanges again (I hate the click-click-click exahust leak!), and found a lot of oil mess. Apparently the tranny pan bolts got loose? They have been fine for over a year, easy, with no leaks from the pan.

I'm guessing our "heat wave" with the unusually higher than normal temps may have been contributing to this oddity.

While I was down there... I thought to myself, "I wonder if anyone makes an aluminum deep pan for this tranny?" , I'm sure someone does, somewhere.

Maybe my Jeep just wanted more attention ;)

I'm sure you could find the deep tranny pan pretty easy if it is the 727 . It came in a lot of cars back in the day. I have a chrome tranny pan that I found on ebay for $30.00 but its not deep.

If you go to the chrysler dealership you can get the mopar deep sump pan p/n P3690730. Plain steel with a good thick rubber reusable gasket and a filter extension for about $55. They are very well built and very thick pans that are allot deeper than the factory ones and come with a filter extension.

Wow, looking at that B&M pan, I wonder if it will clear the crossmember? Has anyone else tried a deep aluminum pan on our rigs? As it was, I needed a u-joint on my ratchet to get to the rear bolts on my pan.

Other parts on my list to get: small gauge cluster, with trans temp gauge ;) I do have the "tow package" with the fatty trans cooler up front, and now with my summertime fan clutch, I know air is moving up there. But I'm sure while off-roading up at North Cow Mountain, the trans is heating everything up because of the grade (even in low range). This isn't even a steep part:

And no, the cameraman was not angling the camera to get a more extreme picture ;)
Thanks all,
Clay

Just make sure you get a filter extension to drop the filter down so the tranny doesn't starve for fluid
