Just for giggles.. I asked a friend what the dummy lights in these round gauges are.

One on the left bottom was Seatbelt.. obvious

He says one is 4-wheel drive light... I said really? Then flip the switch... uhh...

No hiss.

****it. Now I have a vacuum issue too? http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/frown.gif Where do I start?

at the switch.if there is no hiss, youre prolly not even gettin vaccum to the switch.pull the lines off the rear anc check fr vaccum, then try and trace it back to the engine,or look for missing /broken lines.

You might start by swapping in a 208 or a 219 then you won't have any vaccum stuff to worry about. plus i know that you are already experienced with the 208. Maybe you can go on a recon mission and get your old 208 back tell the guy that you'll trade him for your 229. Tell the higher the number the better the xfer.

Check the vacuum can at the middle of your fire wall for leaks. Mine was cracked all the way around. Happens when pulling/installing engines. If that's good then (do you have a vacuum pump?) start checking the other connections at the fromt diff and transfer case vac motors.

The hard plastic vacuum lines that come out of the firewall behind the carb. (red and green if I recall) have cracked a few times on me. One time a line busted off flush to the fire wall and if I had ever gotten around to reinstalling the glovebox after swapping in a stereo a few years back I would have had to spend a day or two inverted under the dash trying to replace the line. As it was, with the custom dash access panel (aka glovebox opening) I was able to replace the line in about 5 minutes. I've since replaced all the hard plastic lines with regular vacuum hose and one of these days I'll even put the glovebox back. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif
