Front diff troubles

having some trouble with the front differential even with the front shaft out I have noticed that the differantial still seems to be engaged and spinning anyone know what could cause this and how expensive it would be for me to fix?

What do you mean by "the front shaft out"; the front driveshaft or the front axleshaft?

What kind of hubs do you have, permanent engaged or locking hubs???

The front drive shaft is out of the truck (have to replace U-joints)and the hubs are Locking both hubs are unlocked but it still seems that my front axle is still turning

Forgot to add My brother thinks that it could be a bur on one of the gears thats catching occassionally and causing the front axle to spin

It could be; when's the last time you disassembled, cleaned and re-greased the hubs? Despite the dial being turned, they may not be unlocking.
