Hi Guys. I use my 81 Cherokee for hunting. It is a stocker and I just need a bit more lift due to the rear bumper occasionally bottoming out on the Mojave Desert hunting trails. Is there some way to give a bit of lift that wont:
1. Make me reinvent 16 other systems.
2. Make my wife divorce me over "that **** Jeep" again.
3. Break the piggy bank.
Nothing radical, just an inch er two. Preferably a simple job that anybody can handle. Thanks.

can put 2 inch blocks in the back, but u war gona need new springs. some dont like blocks, well, all of us dont like blocks. lol
My uncle was exactly the same way as you, after he wrapped his exhaust pipe around his rear axle, he put some add a leafs back there, looks a little funny cuz it has a little rake, but works great for him.

I have an 81 Wag and I would love to lift it 3 or 4 inches. Does anyone know approximately how much this costs with parts and hours of labor? A ballpark figure would be great.

Redbeard, Add a leafs would give between 1-2 inches lift and cost about $60 or so per axle.
TonyM - would you do the work yourself? A lift kit (just parts) would run between $50-$1200US and maybe 8-12 hours labor or more depending on problems along the way.

A little lift? Why not air shocks? They would be easy to install and give you a little lift without alot of hassle. Just a thought.

Body lift is cheap. I plan on doing one and hear they can be a pain if the blind nuts break.
Is your Cherokee a Wide Trak or Narrow Trak? With a wide track you can fit bigger tires on without rubbbing.

... The cheapest and easyest Two inch lift I have seen on an FSJ was
... #1 In the rear was 2” blocks (like mine) and
... #2 Some chevy lowering shackles (rear) used in the front of the FSJ. I saw a guy do some really nasty trails in Palo Duro Canyon with this set-up and it worked fine.
... I am getting a little sag for my front end AAL and will soon look for these chevy shackles.
