For the last 6 years my gw has been the daily driver, family truckster, road trip vehicle and four wheeler. bought it with 190K miles and now she has 540K on the clock with the only drivetrain piece ever being replaced was the np229 last year when the valet thought the 4lo handle was the e brake. We gave it many a new part or two and she never left us stranded. Unfortunately I now have a company car plus with gas being over $4 I can't afford to drive her all the time any more. We were really looking forward to hitting the 1,000,000 mile marker before we start really restoring it, with the way gas looks I doubt it'll ever happen:(
So, after work on friday we'll be changing fluids, adding fuel stabiliser, rolling her into the old dairy barn and throwing an old army tarp over top of her 'till God knows when to hang out with our other FSJ's and unfinished projects.
the day we got her

Thats too bad... You have a BEAUTIFUL rig and it sounds like it has served you and your family well...
Hopefully someday you will be able to pull it back out..
BTW, based on a recent post by another member, might I suggest that you take some extra measures as to not allow stray animals or rodents access to your beauty... Like moth balls or something...

Bah
Unfortunatly times like this come. You had to make a decision and you made the practical one. Sometimes we're forced to make decisions we don't want to make. It is the world we live in.
For all practical purposes I should have let my sisters' family pop the TH400 into neutral and roll my Wagoneer into the ditch so the city could come haul it away. But I responded by moving out of the house and towing my lifeless Jeep 70 miles back to the city where I have been paying $60/month just to KEEP it. ...for a year. I don't have kids or a plethora of responsibilities like many do so its easier for me to flip everyone the bird and do as I please. I will finish what I started no matter what it costs me.
I hope that one day you will be able to pull yours out and do as you please with it

That's a real shame. Gas is pretty high. I've driven mine only a few thousand miles a year for the last 4-5 years. I drive it once in awhile even on long commutes. It's nice to be able to enjoy it once in awhile.
Gas probably isn't going to get any cheaper so if that is what keeps it under a tarp, maybe someone else could enjoy it rather than letting it rot away in a barn? :D

I would put it in one of those big bags, can't think of their real name. We use them to ship machines over seas or if it will be going to storage for any length of time. They are a very heavy vinyl /foil like 2 piece bag that you weld with a clampable heating iron. Before the last seal is made you suck most of the air out with a shop vac. We also throw some big bean bag size moisture sucker uppers in there as well.
You have a really nice Jeep there  . Some sort of protected cacoon thing should help it be a sweet rig again when you pull it back out.
I'm debating on putting my Chero in one if the project gets put on ice again. It will at least keep the weather changes from wearing on it.

That's a beautiful wag! The mileage is rather impressive too. Store her well..who knows, EV powerplants could be just around the corner ;)
I have 2 projects underway and no $$ for either..so trying to keep my investment low. Luckily one is a truck, and will be useful. My big wheeling Cherko only sees in town duty to grab smokes and the mail and light wheeling locally.

540K on your rig is mind boggling and kudo's to you for taking such good care of it.

Wow, 540k is amazing, that's what you get from taking care of your stuff. Shame to see it have to go into storage though, I'd keep driving on historic tags at the least, thats actually what I hope to do with the GW and Chero, insure them as collectors vehicles and only use them for work and play. I hope you get to pull the GW out soon and enjoy it again.

NICE truck. I remember your valet story.
I'd stick it on the barn, but take it out every two months for some exercise and to clean off the hay and dust.
I'd hate to see you stick it away and forget about it and then come back and find that mice found some great new nesting spots in your seats or carpet.

Great looking Wag for 540K. You should make it a Full size time capsule for storage.

thanks guys for all the kind responses. i'll probably be driving it a few times over the summer and I'm looking into alternative fuels or something else of the same nature so maybe it won't be in storage too long, maybe:)

Say it ain't so, bro:( Alot of good memories with that Jeep. Just don't park it next to your '75, it'd get some bad ideas.
