Just curious...what RPM does your auto tranny shift at when you pin it to the floor? Mine is ~4200 and was told that was a little high for a motor this old...

I usually get up to about 3500-3800 on the 2-3 shift but Ive never noticed the 1-2. It *sounds* like it probably goes higher than that. Ive got my TV linkage hooked up to factory specs and 33s/4.10s. My 258 doesnt like those RPMs AT ALL.

Yeah ive never touched any of the linkages, but i guess they couldve loosened up over time.

Wish I had a tach:rolleyes:

Mine (2-3) shifts @ about 45mph if I punch it. Feels good but I don't like those rpms (~ 275 K miles).

mine always shifted early, but i didn't have a tach to see where it was at. on normal accel on flat road it would be in 3rd gear by 23mph. so i usually shifted it myself.

My old Wag shifted right at 4K when punched which was great because all its power was from 1500 to 4500 rpms. My Cherokee doesnt have a tach yet but my ear tells me it shifts right around 3500 when punched.

Plus all Wisconsin road signs are in a different language and you guys dont measure things in miles!!! Its all in Cheeze-its! :banghead: AND they always give me a hassle about my passport at the borders.....Wisconsin is a stupid country.

Mine shifts around 3800-4000 according to my tach. I've always read the AMCs are good for plenty higher than 4000 without any mods. I think it is more a question of cam and gearing as to what peak rpm where you want to shift. They are strong motors so I think the only thing to worry about is floating the valves and I've never heard anyone say that can happen < 6000, but what do I know...

I think I have seen 4200 on a 1-2 shiftout. I don't think your motor knows to tone it down because its getting older. :D
