View Full Version : Dana 30 front axle and bearings
Need to replace the front wheel bearing on the left side and have a little confusion on internals.
What I need to know is if there is also a bearing assembly on the axle side (diff housing side) of the U-joint or just a seal.

Pull it down, you will find that both the inner and outer bearings are contained in the hub that rides on the spindle. Outer bearing comes out as you remove the hub from the spindle.
Do them both (left and right) at the same time, replace the rubber/felt/steel seal on the back at the same time.
Relube the inner hub, king pin (that's what I call it) area at the same time. 1 part bearing grease mixed with 1 part 85-90 gear oil, stir and slather in there. Replace bearing inner seal at same time.
Check the king pin bearings, you should have no play at all, easy and cheap to replace, always carry a spare.
It's a good time to get your drums turned/checked/replaced too.
