Just stumbled onto this. The controller sells for about $85 through Summit. I found it on Amazon for $29, through the Amazon store (not one of their retailers).
Anyone needing a fan controller might want to jump onto Amazon and check it out. It is the part number 31149.

I'm still looking for a reliable but inexpensive controller that will turn on at about 200 and off at 180. If this can do that it would be pretty awesome to get for less than half the normla price.

I was in the market for one and that was by far the best price. I bought it. Dang good deal plus no shipping charges. Thanks amigo! :)
Hey Dan, this one is 185 on, 170 off. Not what you're looking for, but perfect for my use.

Knew it was too good to be true. lol. Oh well. It would have just been on almost all the time since my engine is setup to run only a little bit cooler than stock with a 180* thermostat. Of course right now I've been relegated to just flicking the fan on and off myself since I can't get a cooperative switch.

So, with this controller, your thermostat will open at 180* and your fan will come on at 185*... When the engine cools to 179* (aprox) the thermostat will close, and the fan will shut off shortly thereafter...
Why would it be on all the time with your set-up?

You can get a simple adjustable temp controler from Auto Zone have used them on many diffrent aplication and they last great I run a 30 amp inline fuse from the battery to the controler and have never had a problem thats with a dual fan set up

This is the adjustable one.

It uses a probe in your radiator, not the engine.

The engine will stay around 190* after the thermostat opens, it shouldn't drop down to 170, if it did the thermostat would quickly open again as the coolant quickly reheated. I want it to stay at a consistent temp, and from what I've read about setting up an electric fan, it should come on at 20 degrees hotter than the thermostat, and turn off at the same temperature as the thermostat, so the thermostat stays open all the time and the fan maintains a pretty consistent temperature between 180-200. The stock thermostat was 195, but I don't know at what temp the fan clutch is supposed to be fully engaged, I would guess around 210 or so.
That adjustable Flex a lite one looks a bit pricey tho. I have a Perma cool adjustable fan controller that worked well for getting the right temp, but since it was on/off at one temp, as it reached that temp it would flicker on and off for a few seconds, which was incredibly annoying, and probably not good for the electrical system or the relay.

$30 is too pricey?
This one monitors the temp in the radiator, just like a fan clutch which engages when the temp in the radiator gets too high. You ideally want to keep the engine temp as close to the tstat temp as possible. When setting up the electric, set the controller so that the fan comes on when the engine temp gets a few degrees above the tstat temp. It will cool the radiator then shut off until the output temp of the radiator climbs again.

Hey Mark, I just looked it up again and it is adjustable. I can't even find the one that was 170-185 now. I'm sure I ordered the adjustable one above. I'll find out when it comes in. Either way it will work fine in my application.

It appears that it has an adjustable on, but I dont know what the off temp is set at, or if it is adjustable..
It is cool that this one is alread set-up for a manual on/off switch. That saves some wiring hastle... I will probably use a guarded switch so that it does not accidently get shut off, but if you want the flex-a-lite one, it is only $13.25 through Amazon (part # 31148)
