There is a '78 J10 that I am thinking of buying. It had been running on a propane conversion for most of its life. It was converted back to gas recently. It has a 360 w/ 114,000 on the clock. The motor seems strong, but is there anything I should check for from running propane?
TIA

just put some 2cycle oil in the gass.. about 1/8 bottle to a tank to get rid of any build up from the stuff they put in propane so you can smell it.... propane just dosent wet the oil,.. so when running propane - its inportant to change the oil regurally.....

:D propane rocks! My last Power Wagon ran on propane. It burns cleaner than gas does, but they're right about the oil. When you burn a gallon of gas it makes a gallon of water vapor, when you burn a gallon of propane, it makes two gallons of water, so it's easier to emulsify the water in the oil because there's more of it. However, it burns cleaner(even with the rotten egg stuff in it) and cooler, so it's likely that the engine is in really good shape!

The rotten egg stuff is sulfur dioxide. It is possible that there could be some build up of sulfur compounds in the engine.

The proper name for that rotten egg stuff is "ethyl-mercaptin"-added to HD-5 and higher propane.
