i have a detroit ez locker that im going to be putting in my d44 soon. i have the quardatrac with part time..and its working now. would it be more practical in the front or rear...where would i get the most traction gains? would i be better or sticking it up front and getting a full detroit for the rear? opinions and suggestions appreciated. pros/cons etc.

a full detroit would be far stronger for use in the rear. but if you put thisone i the front, your steering will be drastically effected in 4wd. not as bad as having the front welded, but your turning radius in 4wd will suffer. What kind of wheeling will you be doing, and do you ever drive in snow? (or is this a trail only rig)

i use it in the snow quite a bit for skiing and to get into trails in the winter for climbing...dirt roads with snow. its my daily driver but i dont mind noises and stuff as long as i can still get around. would i be better off with a limited slip in the front?

I've got a lock right in the front of my beater XJ trail rig. I don't even know it's in the there on the street, and it's a non-disconnect type axle, too. They don't truly lock until force is applied to the driveshaft,so when you jack the vehicle up,you can actually spin one of the wheels independantly of the other(you'll hear clicking noises, though). I think it would do fine in a front application. smile.gif

anybody use one in the front axle in the snow? i hear they tend to send you sideways...i will be driving on the road in the snow and off the road in the snow. i guess for on road i would mostly be in 2wd.

Alot of off camber stuff you will want a selectable locker I have a ez locker in the front of my JX. You need to drive more awarefull I'm also running un siped mudders and it can get intersting. If your on mostly ice just go real slow you'll be ok.

since you drive in snow, do NOT put a locker up front. you will find its impossible to steer. Locker in back is ok so long as you stay on top of it. My cherokee can be a handful in some snow situations with the rear detroit.

Yeah, if you use it in the snow on the road don't put it in the front.
