Any ideas on how to remove a full gas tank?
I noticed the truck was leaking gas at the rubber lines that were leaving the tank. Went to change and the steel nipple and all came off. Joys of living in the rust belt. Oh well I guess I'll get to change the sending unit while I'm at it. I figure I can build a platform over my jack and lower it down unless someone knows of a way to drain.

Heavy,
Grand haven.. I was born there...
Ok Full fuel tanks.. Two ways to go about that... Do it all the time at work.
1st way; drain it, gravity feed is a slow way but works, Electric fuel pump works faster. (you need a few gas cans)
The other way is to get a nice 2X6 about as long as your tank and you and a buddy can bring it down slow watch for splashing out the fill tube.
watchout, that tank full of fuel is heavy as all get out. what is it like, 8 pounds per gallon? 20 gallons is like 160 pounds? don't get anything in the way if it starts falling fingers hurt after a nice hit.
I recommend a nice set of plastic fuel cans and disconect the fuel line and drain it that way.

Unknown, thanks for the tip, the big problem is the steel line broke right at the bung to the fuel tank. Nowhere to attach the hose. I'll just have to get a hand siphon and go through the fuel fill. Why did you leave G.H.? I love it here.

I had a bunch of fuel probs. had to drop the tank a few times, used a hand pump and went in through the inspection access(under the rear seat on the drivers side) can just about get very drop this way..made it way easier. :D

heavy,
I said I was born there, not Remember it...
Was still in the funny bottom pants, and drank out of that funny glass with the rubber funnel on it.

A small detail, gas is only 6lbs per gallon, water is 8lbs per gallon, that is why it floats on top of water. But 6*20 is still 120lbs which is more than most of us want to wrassle with. The 2X6 will work as suggested earlier. Good luck! ;)

Got it out without spilling a drop. Two stacks of wood and a floor jack. Thanks for all the trips.
