Was rewatching TRUCKS! Bargain Beater Cherokee episodes and I have a question.
At the last of Part Two, during the Testing Phase of the build-up, when David was out on the trail, there was a loud unhealthy clanking sound when the rig bounced a little.
I first assumed it was the Hi Lift Jack not secured good, but I am thinking now it was something else.

Okay here is the assignment: Go watch it, listen and report back what you think the loud clanking sound it.

My wife thinks Stacey David is a stud, so she has her own opinion of what is clanking...but I need keep this Family Friendly.

I always assumed it was the D-Ring shackles, the ones I had on my TJ tended to bounce up and down on bumps.

That's what I thought it was.

Most show's idea of "budget" builds and my own are usually drastically different... so I'd have to guess his wallet! LOL

I think the mic was inside so it was his tools rattling around. After all no one drives one of these with out tools do they????

Just watched it again. First time in a couple years. Near the very end, you can see the front D rings flopping to the beat of the clunk. I am guessing this was most of it. The quadratrac may have been the rest. :D

as the owner of said rig, I'd have to confirm that it was indeed the shackles. Just to be sure I wrapped them all with some tape and paper towels and went off-road, no more clank :)

I wrapped mine in electrical tape last time it went offroading. those things can make some noise clanging around.
I got some rubber cushions with 1/4-20 thread studs molded into them now just not installed yet.

Are you telling us that it runs now?

No, still haven't finished the drivetrain / exhaust / wiring. Got the engine in though :) Once I get the ramcharger out and the j10 done, I'll be back on the beater.

What have you done with it? What are you doing to it? What are your future plans?

Stacy is local to me, you can bump into him every once in awhile at the local wal-mart.

He also used to come to our salvage yard alot. In some of the newer episodes you can see me and some of the guys doing odd and end things.

One of the nicest down to earth guys I think I have ever met.

Yep, he's one of the few guys that is the same in person as he is on tv (Steve Strope and Troy Trepanier are the same). Good folks.

On the Beater, been building it for the last year or two in JJ mag (EFI 401 / paint / body / interior / etc.). But, also have three other project vehicles in the works, plus 4 jobs and two kiddos, so sometimes the projects get put on hold a little bit ;)

We had 2 grand wagoneers out at the salvage yard one of his trips in. You should have seen the looks on his face. He was wanting to build another.

I understand. You should see what I seem to have going on most of the time. Never enough time in the day to get most of it done.
