I was told that the rear door and window on my Wag. were not in working condition when I bought the vehichle.
This seems to be the case. The motor for the window is non existent, and I am worried to try to force the door itself open. I use the truck daily and would be screwed if I couldn't close it again.

I don't know where to begin on this one?

I have the same problem on my back door. The locking mechanism on the door is sticking. I have to force mine open. If you force it open it should close back. It just takes a little tugging

Trout, are you refering to the tailgate or rear doors?

if you are referring to the rear gat then do not force it open i know of one other member who did and it will break the rear window!!!

You can lower the window without breaking it by climbing inside and remove the carpet and access panel, then remove the motor and let the window slide down, (you may need to help it down) But you would have to help it back up until you got the motor running. Or you can run around with the window down like I did for a month last winter and froze my arss off. At 65 a the heater can't keep up with the gapping hole out back.

My 78 Chief didn't have a back gate motor so I just fashioned a handle on the top of the glass from duck tape and could raise and lower it by pulling on the make shift handle. Looked sorta funny but worked pretty darn good. Of coarse my back gate completely fell off on the trail once (hinges rusted away) so I had to bolt the gate to the body but thats a whole other story.

rselina,I am referring to the tailgate. There is no carpet on the tailgate, so I can see that the motor has been ripped right out.

Jeepfreak, that sounds interesting. Do you have a picture?

Why sure...

The regulator is spring loaded so the window will always want to go up so you will need to tape it down if you want it to stay down when driving or otherwise it will just bounce itself back into the up position. If you use the duck tape just be sure to put it on thick so it doesn't tear.

I've just gotten a '90 and also the window didn't work. found out the wires were ripped from the switch. Everything is there and works, but I can not, for the life of me figure out how to connect the wires. They have connectors that push onto pins, then a plactic cover fits over it all. Any one have any pictures or ideas of which wires go where? Thanks

Triwing, do you have a manual. Haynes makes a pretty good manual for these jeeps. A factory manual is even better, but much more expensive. I would suggest buying something. I don't have mine in front of me or even close to look for you. In fact I'm not even sure where it is after moving a couple of months ago. :(

OH AND WELCOME TO THE FORUM!! WON'T FIND A BETTER PLACE FOR YOUR NEW FOUND ADDICTION

Thanks for the reply, no, I don;t have a manual yet. Been looking for one at Half Price Books. I'll find on sooner or later. A friend has one and is supposed to bring it for me, but he keeps forgetting, and thanks for the welcome. I can't wait to get her up and running. Passed emission testing a couple of days ago!!!
