im thinking about buying 2 axles for my j-10, the rear is a 14 bolt corporate with 4/11's in it. the front is a dana 44 with the large warn hubs. They came off of a 3/4 ton chevy.
My question is how hard would this swap be, and what problems would i run into like steering or dimensions of spring perches, tire clearance and the like. If anyone has done this please let me know what problems ill most likely run into and what to do to fix it. If it is too hard ill most likely pass the deal up(buying both for $500)
Thanks

on my cherokee we tried to swap in a ford 9 till we found that even the d20 transfer case has an offset and we ran into problems between fuel tank and drive shaft . Go to river beasts site he has a lot of good ideas he has used

Check in the tech archives under drivetrain. There have been alot of posts on this topic.I know you will have to go with rear discs on that 14 bolt for it to work on a j-truck.

The front axle will give you a BOLT IN SOA and about 7" to 8" of lift, because the Chevy axle has the perches on top of the axle, but it will bolt right up to your springs. This would require crossover steering mods, lift the rear, brakelines, shocks, ect. ect. The perches on the 14 bolt are not in the correct spot, so new ones would be needed. If you do not want the lift or go through all the mods doing the SOA. You can still used the setup. Use the 14 bolt, and take the Hubs and Rotors, Spindles, Caliper brackets and swap them onto your D44, of course you would have to pull the gears and swp them into your front axle as well to match the 4.11 in the 14 bolt.

if you do this you will need a drag link made up for the front becasue chevies use that goofy hook looking thing and only the top of the drivers side is milled and tapped for a hi steer conversion so the pass knuckle will have to be milled tapped to accept an arm, i am doing this too i bought a 73 suburban for allt he running gear.
hope this helps

The steering is not a problem.... high X-over steering is what you need.... for the rear... check my sig ;) ..... brakelines shocks and prolly some driveline mods as well.....

gastank and driveline interference may play a part as well as the QT unless you have a P/T kit installed.... with the SOA, it's not a good thing to run the QT without a P/T kit.

AdamUnless you do like mine where I went with RBs shackle inversion kit and then inboarded the hangers about .75-1" to allow the springs to clear the backing plates.
If he's going spring over in front, he'll probably be using the inversion in the rear.
