Hi, I'm looking for help with removing the windshield from a Wagoneer. I'd like to save the seal as well as the windsheild.
Can anyone provide me with a link or some basic instruction on how to get the job done?
Thank you much
Frank

Check the Tech Library on the IFSJA web site (www.ifsja.org)...there should be a step-by-step on windshield removal there. Make sure you have a helper!

I will try to explain this the best I can remember when I "watched" the glass company put mine in (caught a HUGE rock). they had a "U" shaped tool they used to go under the glass, between the rubber seal and the glass.
this "folded" the lip of the seal back out of the way as they pushed tha glass out of the seal from the inside, starting at the upper corner working toward the center... they got it out in one piece...and saved the seal.
the new glas was only $135 total for install and eveything with a "no leak" garrantee and lifetime replacement.... auto glass coverage thru ins. company is DIRT CHEAP... worth it. It covers ALL glass.
...How did I get on that topic... oh well....

Right like RB said. Start from one top corner and work towards the other top corner. Have someone push carefully from the inside. I made the U-shape tool by bending a small screwdriver. If necesary, use some grease inbetween glass and seal.
Be carefull with the glass. Mine came out in one piece, holding it with two persons. Walked a few steps away from the car and for no reason at once it broke.
I put in the new one myself. A good advise: have a glass shop do it for you. It's a real struggle.
Good luck ! And if it brakes, $135 is nothing compare to the $450 I had to pay for mine, just glass, without install !
grrrr......shipment costs

Thanks guys, I wish I had access to a glass shop, but in the big old town of Ucluelet, you have to do these things yourself.
I'll give it a shot and hope for the best.
Thanks.

just got a new windshield seal in this morning from specialty jeep. i'll shoot a few pictures of the seal and how it goes together and put them up on the tworock.com website.
to get it off, look for a very small seam (almost like 2 pieces of rubber pushed together) between the body and the glass on the rubber seal. put a few drops of dish soap on the seal and run a flat blade screwdriver in there and twist it slowly back and forth and the seal will break and one side of the rubber will start to come out. the dish soap keeps the rubber slimey and keeps the blade from digging into the rubber. at that point it becomes pretty obvious as to how it comes apart. open the seal up all around. on mine the top R + L corners had lips that went over the glass and prevented you from pushing the glass out, so I pushed the bottom corners out and then pulled it out from the bottom. be sure and take the wipers off before you start. takes about 10 minutes to do the whole thing.
the seal on my 69 was too shot to keep, the rubber had just dried up so be mentally (and financialy) prepared to buy a new seal if you have to.
