Hey everybody I'm needing a little info here.
I have a '76 J-10, stock 258 I-6, Single barrel Carter Carb, Mileage=unknown (probably high), 3-speed Manual trans.
The motor has one lifter tapping and what sounds like a ROD knock that comes and goes. I'm going to take care of those ailments later but not too later. When I've been test driving the truck after all the little odds and ends I've been doing to it, it sounds like it is about to come unglued when the rpms pick up. I've had a timing light on it and I've watched the RPMs while racing the motor and know that it SOUNDS like it's really turning some revs when it really isn't all that high.
My question is this: What is the normal RPM "Redline" or shift range on these motors. I'm planning on replacing Instrument Cluster with all new gauges, Tach included but don't have a clue what the RPM shift points roughly are.
Any Help Please?
Clueless
