Happy Friday!!
Ok I am still a newbie, so here is another question. I had new plugs and cap, rotor, and carb adjustment done today by a local guy. He told me that my carb will need to be replaced or rebuilt. Which should I do? I brought in the Wag because it would hesitate and sometimes stall durring acceleration. After the work it is worse? If I accelerate slow it seems to be fine, when I give it what I think is normal it hesitates and will stall. What can I do to help this untill I get the carb replaced? Who can I get a good carb from.
Thanks for all the help in advance

mine was acting the same way, it was hard to start in the cold and stalled unless you accelerated slowly, you might talk to some one more knowledgable about rebuilding the accelerator pump, you can rebuild the whole carb in a day if you want, its not that bad if you get your info right, i didnt and it was a hassle, but i think i got it now. The hardest part was mine was put together incorrectly by someone even less mechanically inclined than me(didnt think that someone existed) before i got it. Some simple tools, a manual, this website and some carb cleaner is all you need. And some patience to. If you want to send me a pm, i can tell you what parts and procedures i had trouble with and where i felt the directions were lacking. Good luck.

The normal reasons for what your describing are bad accelerator pump, bad power valve, or timing.
This topic is discussed in quite a bit of detail in other threads, but basically its a common thing for our engines.
Rebuilding the carb is a good idea, once done see how it goes.

Definitely agree with Carb rebuild & timing.
Might wnat to check trans linkage to carb. as well. If you are a little too fast on timing and the carb is in need of a rebuild, the trans linkage only has to be little out of adjustment, to make things a heak of alot worse.....
Just a thought to ponder......not that it happened to me or anything.....

I would say try rebuilding the carb and then make sure the timing is where it's suppose to be and see what that does. I assume you've got a stock motorcraft 2bbl, here's a link for you: Carb Rebuild (http://www.ifsja.org/tech/fuel/2150.shtml)
Hold this helps,

Is it better to get a replacement or rebuild? With only one car I cant afford to be without my car if I mess it up.

Depends on how much you want to spend. Rebuild it yourself for $40 or so... Or $200 area for replacement or factory rebuild...

Definitely a blown powervalve or the like. In order to replace it you need to pull the carb, which is a good time to either rebuild or replace it....
for $2-300 you can get the carb rebuilt by a local shop. Look for a place that specializes in rebuilding carbs. We have Pinellas Carb in my area, they're my yardstick.....
But for that much you're dang close to the cost of a 4bbl carb.... All you'd need then is the correct intake manifold.
Rebuilding a carb yourself is considerably cheaper, but if you've never done it before, can be kind of intimidating.....
Lots of little parts and gaskets to keep track of.
But it's not impossible, just pay attention to the little things, and when it's all back together, getting the settings right is trial and error.... fiddle with it until you like how it runs, i've found that factory settings don't always work right.... for older engines, factory specs make a good baseline to start with.

… The MC-2150s are losing a lot of power valves and accelerator pumps. A lot of power valves and accelerator pumps are ‘old stock’ and were manufactured long ago. Some of the additives (EPA requirement) they are now putting in our gasoline these days are rotting various diaphragms, gaskets and seal materials made from older materials. A lot of electric fuel pumps have instructions that warn not to run alcohol though them and some of our fuel is 10% alcohol.
… A cool idea is two buy a matching carburetor from a salvage yard and learn to rebuild it in your spare time. It doesn’t take long to swap them out for a test.
