Is being magnetically attracked to high nickle content of 401s. I am sure they are over rated but I don't care. :D

yes, that is a block of wood for a motor mount...

401 2bbl, wood motor mounts,
interesting option's :rolleyes:Yep. Story is the PO before the seller had the 360 go belly up on him. When he started shopping a rebuild, an engine builder in Silt had a fresh built 401 w/o intake sitting in his shop. The customer never picked it up so they sold him the 401 on the cheap to recover investment and the 360 intake & 2 bbl was slapped on. I just cleaned the 2100 carb with a can of carb cleaner spray, it started right up and I drove it off the trailer.

You are absolutely right, my brother. Overrated, overrated, overrated. Big, hulking, fuel-sucking piece of crap. Let me relieve you of your burden. You do not deserve to be burdened with the weight of all that responsibility. After all, it aint heavy...your my brother. ;)

All the AMC blocks were high nickel, not just the 401's. The 401's and 390's had forged cranks and more webbing around the mains making for a more rigid block.

good catch Josh! ;) so it must be the magnetic force of the forged steel cranks then...

i feel so retarded that i have to ask this but are we all saying that 401= good or bad or nickel = good or bad or what i am lostIt is dependant on your preference for power.
For AMC motorheads, 258 = pequeño bueno, 360 = mucho bueno, 401 = effin bueno. :D

The high nickle content makes the block stronger. That is one of the reasons there are better chevy blocks than others, the good ones have high nickle content. From what I understand all the AMC blocks are high nickle, but like Josh said the 401 is better because it has a forged crank and beefier block design. More cubic inches helps too.

I knew a fella in Charlotte. Big ole guy like Bigun. He did not mix well with most social circles and worked by himself hauling loads with a 1 ton Chevy dually. I don't know why he burned up 2 or 3 454s a year in that thing. I hope he finally went to an oil burner at some point. ;)

The clean up on aisle 7 is coming along well Ryan. ;)
Al, I think this guy was an exception when it came to working equipment. He was hard on everything. He thought he had to go 85 no matter what he was hauling. The first 2 engines he burned up Chevy bought for him. Then he was on his own.

man i wish i had the ability to pull my jeep off the frame like that it could use some cleaning and repair Taking it apart is the easy part. Chop the roof and the cab flips off it doesn't weigh anything really. The interesting part will be getting my other cab back on it without screwing anything up
I'd say go for it. It's well worth the effort to know everything is de rusted and coated in my opinion.
Now if I only could weld and do the suspension like I want too.. good thing its a thriftside bed going on so I'll have plenty of access to that stuff later on.

Eh, too easy to slip into SW speak. grunts. and gestures.
I chopped the top because the cab was garbage, which I vaguely hinted at when talking about putting another cab on it ;)
Just got done putting on first coat of "Dust Bowl" tan oil on the frame..it looks niiiiiiiiice. I'll post pix when it's done and the body lift is bolted on.

Slapped some Dust Bowl Tan oil on it today. Needs another coat and the front still needs cleaning and painting (luckily its only oil on it). Mocked up body lift. Looks good. total cost so far is less than 6 gallons of gas.
