Does anyone know if the pinion yoke is the same on an older d44(76') as the one on a late model (87')? I know they use the a collapsible spacer on the late modles. but is the a Pinion yoke itself the same? also my wife jamed the trans (727)into park while the shaft was just flapping around, now it won't shift out of park. any suggestions?

I have to ask, how does the shaft just flap around?

I work for a railroad, and the guys in the shop wanted a locomotive that they were working on pulled outside. So naturally this I thought was a job for my FSJ. my wife happened to be there to pick up my paycheck, as she does faithfully every week. I think it's the only reason she married in the first place. But that's a whole other story. Since she was there we decided to put her to work too. She was driving the Wagon while we wrapped the chains around the locomotive. When she started to pull (in 4low) one of the bolts on the U-joint clamp broke, and the driveshaft let loose. so of course she panicked and jammed it into park. And that was just the start of my bad day..

ROTFLMAO
Do you have any video of this? This sounds almost like the fire story.
How bad did the shaft beat the underside of the Jeep?

RSM,
Sorry to hear it man, don't know about the tranny issue but it's a good opportunity to upgrade to ubolts (instead of 1/4" bolt/straps) on the pinion yoke. I bought a few from this guy that is offering them for $15 shipped.

Sorry to have laughed, but here in Green River we have a big UP switching/repair yard and I could just see that happening here. You can see some strange stuff going on in the yard from time to time.

Well, finally after digging through 4 feet of ice, mud, snow, and dog$hit that I had plowed from my yard against my parts rig. I managed to get soaking wet, and filthy with mud crawling under the jeep to pull the yoke off my 76'. I went into the truck to shift it into neutral so I can spin the shaft and get to the bolts. This is the point where I remember why I stopped driving the jeep in the first place. Because I lost the keys. Now that the shaft is positioned in a way that I can't get a wrench to the bolts, Frustration starts to take over. Everyone knows what happens when you get frustrated, You get "The Torch." After another 20 mins. of cutting "stuff" and beating on more "stuff," i finally get the yoke off only to find out it's the wrong part, and won't work. Who ever would have thought? So now the hunt begins. I will have to call through the vast sea of idiots behind every parts counter in the area, and just pray that one will get right. The good news is that after being jammed into park at about 3500 RPM, my trans. somehow managed to survive with just some bent linkage. The moral of the story, if you need a yoke for an 87' D44, one from a 76' won't work. If I can save just one person from putting themselves through this ordeal, all this $hit I went through would have been worth it..
