I'm getting rid of my parts Wag. I've got the engine and transmission, but what about the rear/front ends?
It's my understanding that all 1980's came with the AMC rear end and were not the best, so I wasn't going to bother, but what about the front end? What was in the 1980's?
Is it worth keeping?
I admit, I could tell one from another. Just green I guess!
Thanks

The AMC 20 is pretty stout in FSJs (bad rep because of the CJ versions with 2-piece axles).
The front has always been a Dana 44, starting in the early '70s, IIRC. An '80 definitely has a 44 in front.

Depends on your wheelin'. I would pull the shafts on them. You never know when you will snap an axle shaft.

the amc 20 is a really good rear ,like he dsaid though two peice axles really stink but you can always get new axlesw/updated bearings and it's a real good rear,so keep em both
