I'm looking at buying this truck. It is a 1969 Jeep j2000 with the Buick 350. Has the 3 speed transmission. body is decent other than drivers side
rocker panel rusted. The owner is asking $1500 for it. Is this a good truck to buy? What do you guys think its worth? Also is this a good drive train configeration?

Sounds like a decent deal to me. Take a good look at the body, if the rocker is rotted out, you will probably find more rust.

Buick 350's are great motors. My 71 has one, I love it. Lots of power and I get decent mileage with it. Around 12, not matter where or how I drive. The 3 speed should be a T15A, they are as bullit proof as 3 speeds can get.

For negitives, the turning radius is like 55 feet, drum brakes all around. That's really about it. I dd my 71, and am fine with it. I loved my 4 wheel drums, and only swapped in discs up front because I could not find easiy available replacement parts (it had hard to find odd ball 12x2.125" front brakes). Parts for that 69 are easy to get.

Sounds like a good deal if that's all rust there is. Be careful though, rust will creep up on you a year or two down the road.

Nice RED Gladiator.

The wrap around rear bumper brings $300 +

And that interior is Amber and very clean.

Chrome Rino grill's in good shape have been bringing couple hundered lately on ebay.

Easily worth $1500 just in parts.

If you want it, and it doesn't have any terrible hidden problems, heck yeah.

As stated above, the 350/T-15/D20 combo is sturdy and reliable. The Buick 350 works very well in a truck, and is very well liked by owners. On the down side, the front axle has closed knuckles, which need some extra care and feeding, plus they make the turning circle rather wide. Power steering would be nice, if it has it. Could be power or manual 11" drum brakes; some of these trucks have 12" brakes, but I think all the short wheelbase trucks are 11". The 12" brakes are nearly impossible to find drums for.

Does it have a tailgate? They are hard to find in good condition. Check carefully for body rust - that's a major issue with these vehicles.

At $1500, if it runs and drives, I would not haggle much. That price is low compared to the time and money you'll spend on it. Remember that it's a 40 YO truck, so it won't be a turnkey purchase. Plus, nobody ever sells a good running vehicle for no reason ... expect a few surprises.

Good luck! They are great trucks!
