I know this is an entry level question, however, when raising the front of the vehicle to install new springs, where exactly do you place the jack stands? The only place that seems to make sense is the crossmember that runs directly underneath the radiator. Thanks.

I put some 6-ton stands under that crossmember, and a couple 4-ton under the frame immediately behind the bracket for the rear eye mount of those front springs.

That's what I thought. Didn't want to start banging until I was sure. Thanks!

Almost forgot; chock both rear wheels, front and back. You DON'T want this thing moving on you!

i found my jack stands were not tall enough to put under the radiator mount. I put mine at the frame, behind the front springs. seemed ok. i used a floor jack at the radiator mount too, put it up tight and then backed it off a hair. kind of as insurance. threw a couple of tires under the truck too but I am parinoid.

dont forget to set your parking brake.

have fun!

if im doing work that needs the axles to be unsupported or its going to be sitting for awhile off the ground I drag out every large hunk of wood I can come up with and stack em up to build something I trust a wee bit more than jack stands(dunno why but I have never liked being under a vehicle on jackstands). usually come up with a good stack of 4x4 lumber to use.

Stole this from Harry's U-Pullit in Hazelton PA

two empty wheels welded together in a T. You can put 2 wheels on the bottom to raise it an extra 6-8". Cheaper that the $40 dollars for 6 tons...

Anything big that will hold it high enough for you to get out when it does come down on you.
