Well the clutch pedal appeared a bit out of adjustment. So I go to adjust it up a bit and wouldn't you know it, SNAP rod broken. So I need a new adjustment rod for the clutch. So I guess tomorrow I will find out just how good the jeep dealers or other are in my area at getting one of these in my hot little hands ASAP. If this was to break on you where would to go to get the replacement part.
T-176 off the bell crank clutch adjusting rod to the clutch fork. So much for my evening. End of story

Napa. Bring your old parts with you, they can match them up in a catalog that has sizes and photos. After your done, post the part #'s, I'll be needing some too.

Funny you say that GlennTX.
Once sheered the bellcrank stud running up a step rock incline pedals fell to the floor bellcrank hanging. Lucky enough was able to crawl/cripple along to a flat open area pull off to the side and shutdown. I then found some wire/barbed wire and wired the bellcrankup in place temporarily enough to get to a location to have the part delivered by a friend so I could permenently fix the problem. Oh I love it when these type of things happen.

here is what I have done for both my cherokee and my J10. (can get picts tomorrow)
Parts list:
- two 3/8 fine thread heim joints (teflon style socket)
- 1 piece of 3/8 fine thread all thread, that is at least 18" long (cut to length later)
- 4 3/8 fine thread nuts
- 2 lock washers
Put heim joint on to one side of all thread, then compair to old linkage, cut all thread so that it will be close in length with other heim joint on.
Put two nuts onto all thread, then screw on heim joints (but not all the way), then tighten nuts to heim joints.
put heim joints onto clutch pedal, and bell crank. Then put on lock washers and nuts.
any adjustments needed can be made from this shaft (may need to be cut shorter). there is also an adjustment on the tranny side of the bell crank.
This is twice as strong as stock, and works MUCH smoother with the teflon heim joints.

Yup, mine fell out last time at Gilmer. I just crawled underneath dusted it off and popped it back in. The ball and joint are very worn though.
Stuka- does Napa carry those little heim joints or can you get'em a Home Depot?

Here are picts of mine, which is about twice as strong as stock. (stock ones always break).
Pedal Side:

Bell-Crank Side:
http://tribal.org/~brandon/ifsja/clutch-linkage/bellcrank-side.jpg
I can get a picture of a heim joint on its own if need be. I have a spare one.
lenghts vary per year, so I cant give an exact length. These picts are of my chero. My J10 uses a longer shaft (more prone to break). But this has been a huge improvement over stock. The pedal movement is MUCH smoother now, as the stock setup usses loosly fit bal joints, and these tight heim joints with teflon bushings are awesome.

Stuka,
Yes I can see that your setup is most definitely
more heavy duty.
"twice as strong as stock. (stock ones always break)."
Yes they do and it is about every 3 1/2 to 6 years you need to pretty much go through this area with some new parts. I think I will do something like yours when I have the time.
I want to thank you for the pictures and the information. Did you have to drill out a larger hole in your pedal or bell crank for this to mount properly? thanks again ;)

Nope, the holes in the pedal and crank on both my cherokee and J10 are both set for a 3/8" stud.

Go down to the hardware store (one that actually has all kinds of good tractor stuff) and adapt and overcome. Remember that AMC made these things with off the shelf parts, we can re-make them with better off the shelf parts. Right now I have more stainless bolts and widgets than some small banana producing countries, but I know I won't have to &*^% with 'em anymore.
