We are finally 99.9% done with my "winter ride" HA (not anymore!!)
Everything is done and the decals get a huge thank you for Tonka J200 for his creative expertise!!
Honey did the duals and they are positioned so that we can have the back window down while driving which is pretty darn nice! (It's only clamped now to make sure we didn't need to modify before final welding)
We had the syphon (sp) the gas out of it since it was almost full when we got it and it had sat in a green house for the last 9? years. It was foulling up the carburator pretty bad. I'm really excited and wanted to share it with you all! (sorry pics are kinda big)
Anyway, it goes in it's first cruise night this thursday~

I am just SO excited!
Thanks, guys!
I'm going to the cruise that was formally at TGI Fridays in Warwick- Now it's at The Cowessett Inn Restaurant on Cowessett Ave in West Warwick Rhode Island- Thursday night is the opening night!
For those of you that saw it before... She was terminal. Everyone gave me the raised eyebrow look and then smiled a little like I was insane and they didnt want me to snap!
Now it's WOW!!!
Hey, I know it's not everybody's cup-a-tea. It's no 57 Vette, but hey. It's unusual!
Hee hee hee!!!!

Amazing job. It looks beautiful. One of the cleanest looking NT's I have ever seen. Great color too.

Thank you so much!
The rims and interior are original. The emblems have that white background and we're changing the white to the blue color. Devoted husband figured out and bent both sets of bumpers. All underneath has been treated and coated.
We also have figured out how to use new Cherokee style shoulder belts for the rear and hide most of the mechanism behind the panels. I got a pair of shoulder belts out of a J10 and I have to say they scared me. They crumbled in my hands and I didn't trust them to hold up in a crash. I'll put up pictures of that once it's done.

My pics must be pretty good, Lindel, the carpet isn't ripped but it's definitely threadbare to say the least. Probably not as bad as some of the southern rigs where it's just an oven in the summer.
DH is outside working on the seatbelts now and I have pictures as he goes along.
The guy who did the body work and put on the decals keeps saying that I must hate his guts. It was a lot of work for him but not only did we pay him, we bought him a nice plazma cutter too. It takes some of the sting out!

Well, one side is completed. We used rear shoulder belts out of a classic 90's Cherokee and took a few cosmetic pieces to use too. They look great! They are only for decorative purposes though.

Oh, all that white stuff is gone. It was glue residue from where the previous owner tried duct taping up all the panels to keep the exhaust fumes from pouring in. When we got it it had practically no rear quarters left on it.

Nice rear belt conversion. How did you get the belt run through the hole in the panel? I didn't think the fabric was detachable.
Bev25
04-27-2008, 11:35 AM
He used that gray cover plate to cover the hole. The hole is big enough to get the entire upper plastic assembly through. Then he hid the lower portion all behind the panel.

Of course we would never recommend installing safety features by yourself. Only a trained professional should be hired if considering any type of modifications to anything on your vehicle.
The below applies entirely:
STANDARD LIABILITY DISCLAIMER: Clearly, the only reason to install shoulder belts is to garner compliments on how handy you are; they are for decorative purposes only and should never be used. Legally, not only do I think that shoulder belts installed based on the below description will not protect occupants under any circumstance, I think that installing rear shoulder belts will cause the wheels to fall off your FSJ, your gas tank to explode, your dog to leave you, your teeth to fall out, and your family and friends to start giving you large economy-size bottles of Bean-O as gifts. In other words, I accept no responsibility for your results if you install shoulder belts; proceed at your own risk.

Wow, gorgeous. Very, very nice work. I love the blue and silver with the 'S' package graphics, very sharp. Nice job on the shoulder belts too (also love the disclaimer on doing that mod). The one and only thing I would personally change, would be to swap to a razor grille, and perhaps a 2" lift and 31's. How's the side exit exhaust?
Looks awesome!
And thank you for posting photos. After six months of staring at Elroy and Elwood staining the concrete I finally dragged them inside today and got a good start to the project... which only happened because you inspired me.

You guys... Thank you so much!
As you already know this was only supposed to be a winter ride and it got entirely away from us. Now I'll have to find a winter ride so I can put away my winter ride!
We've talked about the bigger tires and a lift but since I dont think we've even put 100 miles on it since we got it last summer, we both feel I should get used to it a bit before doing any lifting.
The best part is next weekend we are driving it up to the previous owner's house in Seekonk Massachusetts so he can see it. He wanted to restore it when he got it but he never got around to it. After heavy negotiating I was able to score it for $225.00. A lot more time and cash has been spent but well worth it!
The original owner sold land to his neighbor and bought it cash for $15,500.00. When he passed away in his 80's the neighbor stored it in his greenhouse for years with the hope of restoring it. I then bought it, it was still in the neighbor's name.
And actually, Big Tiny, I'll I did was steam clean the interior. There is 113K on it and I dont think anyone has ever been in the back seat! It's all original!
I got my husband a pipe bender one year as a present and he bent the duals and both bumpers himself. The exhaust is clamped on right now because our goal was to be able to run it with the rear window down if we chose. The way it's positioned now actually works- no fumes. He'll be welding it permanent this week.
I may have more pics at the cruise night this coming thursday too!

Well, I for one, am very impressed...and that does not happen often. I had not seen the stripes since your last post. Excellent work.

I have to thank TonkaJ200 for the stripes again, he did an awesome job with the decals. It just finishes the truck. It looks so much nicer than the original white and he cut out the details so the paint color would show through. He did an incredible job:thumbsup:
Once it stops pouring, I'm bringing it my local Jeep dealer and see if I can work out a deal with him. I'd like to leave it in front of the dealership one weekend to draw people in. If he's a real Jeep guy, he'll do it and I can recoup a little green stuff!
Lindel
04-28-2008, 03:16 PM
You're going to ask him if he'd like a REAL Jeep parked in front of his dealership?? People will be asking where can they get one!
Bev25
04-28-2008, 03:27 PM
Like my hubby says... everything's for sale!
Actually I couldnt even bear to sell it yet, for any price. It leaves me with an uncomfortable twinge just thinking about it!
And hey, if they ask where they can get one I'll just point them HERE, right??

Your Chero looks absolutely wonderful.

04-30-2008, 03:59 AM
18Cherokee, you're saying no to lifting it? Is that what you mean?
JPSwapMohn
04-30-2008, 05:10 AM
Bev,
It is your rig, so obviously, do what you like with it. But I would tend to agree with NOT lifting it. I think it looks stunning just as it sits. The pics give the impression that the front sits a little higher than the rear. I would consider just leveling it out.
Again, just my opinion, and it will look good regardless of whether you lift it or not, as long as you don't start cutting wheel openings and such..
You have created what appears to be an almost show-quality vehicle. I would cruising around in that thing with a forever sh1t-eating grin on my face.
Bev25
04-30-2008, 02:54 PM
Well, JPSwapmohn, I already have the terminal grin on my face where ever I go... The body is definitely not going to be touched anymore and as for the lift, I really don't care either way. I like it the way it is, DH thinks maybe down the road, we could add a minor minor lift when it's time for better tires. Nothing radical at all.
As for the rear sag, for some strange reason it's now almost level. Maybe because we've been running a bit and it sat for so long it's just coming back a bit. We really arent sure why. It's definitely coming back up.
I like it just the way it is now though, I'm very very happy!

I haven't followed the build as I'm still new here and it looks awesome.
My wife and I fell in love working on building the Scrambler.
Somewhere about engine stage I gave her the ring.
Well after 8 years and several Jeeps & kids later we're still hanging together.
I still remember the day I drove the Scrambler out of the Garage after 7 years of working on it.
Great feeling and hope it doesn't take me that long to get Gladiator going.
Congrats on a successful and beautiful restoration.

Thank you... I really wish I could expand on some of the pics you all have next to your names. Some of those pics look really interesting like yours and would love to see bigger shots.
What I like is that there are hardly any at all around my state. Some Grand Wagoneers, but I've never spotted one like mine.
There was a brief sighting a few months back in Warwick RI but there were no pictures and only one witness. I'd love to run a search at the DMV on how many are registered around here but it's too "Gone in 60 Seconds" and they'll probably take me in for questioning. HA!
